Agenda for Virtual Meeting of

Smart Manufacturing Advisory Committee (SMAC)

May 10, 2016

1:00PM-2:30PM Eastern

  1. Welcome– 1:10 pm
  1. Overview:America Makes & ANSI Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC) (

(Pat Picariello)– presentation available upon request.

The America Makes & ANSI Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC) is a cross-sector coordinating body whose objective is to accelerate the development of industry-wide additive manufacturing standards and specifications consistent with stakeholder needs and thereby facilitate the growth of the additive manufacturing industry.

The catalyst for the AMSC is the fact that a number of standards developing organizations are engaged in standards-setting for various aspects of additive manufacturing, prompting the need for coordination to maintain a consistent, harmonized, and non-contradictory set of additive manufacturing standards.

Formally launched in March 2016, the AMSC is targeting to produce by the end of 2016 a standardization roadmap for additive manufacturing. The roadmap will identify existing standards and specifications, as well as those in development, assess gaps, and make recommendations for priority areas where there is a perceived need for additional standardization, including in relation to needs already identified in the America Makes Additive Manufacturing Technology Roadmap. The AMSC will not develop standards or specifications. Rather, the hope is that the roadmap will help drive coordinated standards development activity.
