The Web and Digital Communications Manager leads the College’s Web Team, which develops, designs, maintains and supports the college website and integrated online communications, oversees web content creation and publishing, manages internal training, and supports leadership, faculty and staff in using the College’s content management system, digital communication tools, ensures the website’s vibrancy, integrity and accessibility to all users, and utilizes data analytics to inform digital strategies and support best practices.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Directs the planning, standards, design, development, content, and integrity of the college’s website, with a central focus on the college mission and the institution’s goals of equity and inclusivity, and with particular attention to top level pages that support the recruitment efforts of the Office of Admissions and the fundraising efforts of the Development Office.
  2. Serve as both manager and full stack practitioner in coding, infrastructure, software and systems to advance college web digital communications initiatives, leveraging sophisticated best practices in web programming, user experience and interface development.
  3. Manage, collect, curate and design digital content to enhance the reputation, serving as a key editorial voice and authority for web, digital and social media content.
  4. Establish, collect data and manage college-wide success metrics for digital communications, content and social media. Leverage data and metrics to inform decisions about workflow priorities and to maximize the marketing value of the website. Makes data reports available to campus community as requested and assists others in understanding and making decisions that are informed by web metrics.
  5. In collaboration with the Web Developer/Designer, develops and implements intuitive and clear processes for all members of the campus community to build and maintain their pages, including style guides, training, and technical assistance.
  6. Collaborates with the Chief Communications and Integrated Marketing Officer (CCIMO) to develop web and digital communications policies that determine the scope of the site and ensure accessibility to users with disabilities.
  7. Works collaboratively with the college community to facilitate web-based projects; designs, develops, and implements web content, as needed. Key client include Development and Alumni Relations, Enrollment Management and the Dean’s Office.
  8. Supervises and develops staff and students with a focus on excellent customer service. Fosters a team-based approach, encouraging professional growth, and ensuring adequate cross-training. Facilitates the work of the staff, making sure their work is performed in a coordinated manner and day-to-day operations flow smoothly.
  9. Keeps abreast of trends, development, best practices, and technologies with sensitivity to the important marketing value of the college’s website. Assists the CCIMO in identifying and implementing the best web and digital solutions for Beloit.
  10. Monitors and evaluates web services staff effectiveness, re-engineers operations and procedures as appropriate; effects change required for improvement.
  11. Manages contract with external vendor, host of the college web servers, to ensure effective and secure online operations.

Credentials and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree with at least 10 years of experience in web and digital media development.
  2. Expertise in web coding, technologies and tools (e.g. HTML5, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript), multi-media formats and techniques, and mobile application development.
  3. Strong editorial and content background with emphasis on web and digital marketing content development.
  4. Experience working with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics, SEO platforms, creating data reports, interpreting data, presenting data effectively to others, and using data to inform best practices.
  5. Demonstrated increasingly responsible management experience supporting/managing Web operations or maintaining web content/design, or comparable combination of education and experience; preferably with an understanding of educational settings.
  6. Experience working with diverse populations preferred; willingness to work with diverse populations required.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem solving skills.
