The 2017Pennewell/Adams Scholarship

Description: The Pennewell and Adams Scholarship was established through the generosity of the R.D. and Florence Pennewell and Adams families to support PUMC church members who are actively living out their Christian faith with their education.
The value of the scholarship is determined by the number of shares a student qualifies for and by the amount of funds that are available. In 2016 each share was worth $240.
Eligibility: You must be a full member of Palmyra United Methodist Church and be attending an accredited college, university or vocational school. You may receive this scholarship 4 times. Seminary students may receive this award beyond the 4 year limit.
How shares are distributed: You may receive up to 4 shares.
Enrollment: Students will receive a full share if they are considered a full time student or a ½ share if they are less than full time.
Attending a United Methodist School: Students who attend a United Methodist college, university, or seminary receive a full share.
Past year’s attendance in worship and Sunday School: After reviewing the student application and other information, each member of the committee rates the student on a scale of 0-10 regarding their past attendance in worship and Sunday School. The committee scores are averaged and divided by 10. That number which is between 0 and 1 represent the portion of a share the student receives.
Past two years involvement in youth, campus ministry, church, missions, camp: After reviewing the student’s application and other information, each member of the committee rates the student on a scale of 0-10 regarding their Christian involvement over the past two years. The committee scores are averaged and divided by 10. That number which is between 0 and 1 represents the portion of a share the student receives.
Payment of Scholarship:
Checks will be written between August 1 and August 31. At the student’s request they will be made out to either the student or the school. Checks will be issued only after the church has received confirmation of enrollment and if possible the student’s fall campus address, phone and e-mail.
Note to Students: The scholarships are designed to encourage and reward your involvement in the Christian walk while you are a student. When you list your Christian involvement, please list what Christian organizations you are involved with and what you did within those organizations. Describe mission projects, VBS, youth involvement, small group Bible Studies, etc. Be mindful that there may be people on this committee who do not know you and the only thing they have to go on is what you write. The church looks at your attendance records of PUMC. If you are attending church here, please make sure to turn in an attendance slip each time you are here.
