Job Purpose:
To undertake research in the area of calculating energetic barriers to the permeation of small hydrophobic compounds in bacterial outer membranes
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)
  • Undertake research into calculating energetic barriers to the permeation of small hydrophobic compounds in bacterial outer membranes.
  • Investigate models and approaches to test and develop them.
  • Take a leadrole in preparing research findings for publication in refereed journals, presenting results at conferences, and also exhibiting work at other scientific events.
  • Carry out administrative tasks associated with the research project, including organisingmeetings and preparing documentation, etc. Implementing procedures foraccurateformalreporting, ensuring that deadlines are kept and preservingfinancial project control.
  • Collaborate/work on original research tasks with colleagues in other institutions.
  • Supervise the work of junior research staff in the group.
  • Carry out occasional undergraduate supervision, demonstrating or lecturing duties within own field of expertise under direct guidance of a member of academic staff.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
PhD either already completed or thesis submitted in computational chemistry, biochemistry or biophysics.
Experience of the molecular simulation package GROMACS.
Track record of publications. At least two publications in high impact journals.
Familiarity with bioinformatics methods.
Have some experience of modern programming languages. / 
