All Quiet on the Western Front – Theme Analysis

Each group will identify a primary theme from All Quiet on the Western Front and create an electronic presentation, including images and quotes, to show how that theme relates to the novel. You should plan on having a minimum of 7 slides, including a title slide, a slide dedicated for each quote/image pair, and a works cited slide.

  1. Find a minimum of 5 quotes from AQWF that support your theme. Record page numbers for you quotes below.

  1. Find at least one image to combine with each of your quotes. These images should enhance the meaning of the quote. You may want them to relate directly to WW1. However, if you want to take the theme from All Quiet and apply it to a more modern context, like the war in Afghanistan, that’s fine. You can find images at:

Using Prezi

  1. Direct your browser to

  3. On the right there is a “public” license that is free. Click “Get.”

  3. Click on the yellow “Create New Prezi” tab on the left.
  4. Begin creating your Prezi.

Using PowerPoint

  1. Click on PowerPoint.
  2. Click “Insert” and then “New Slide.”
  3. Click on “Format” to change slide design, layout, and background.
  4. If you want to have a picture/image be the background of your slide, click “Format,” “Background,” and then click the color drop down menu, then click “Fill Effects,” and the “Picture Tab”

  2. You can add movement to your words by clicking on “Slideshow” and “Custom Animation”
