I refer to your request for information held by the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust received on 3 January 2017 and our acknowledgement dated the same day.

I am pleased to respond to your request as follows:

1. What is your annual IT Infrastructure Budget for 2016, 2017 & 2018?

2015/16 – £7,507,998

2016/17 - £8,281,509

2017/18 – Not yet set. This process is due to commence shortly.

2. What storage vendor(s) and model do you currently use?

The Trust uses the following storage vendors:

·  Hewlett Packard

·  NetApp

The Trust will not be disclosing the model used as it is our view this information is exempt under Section 38 relating to Health and Safety.

As S38 is a qualified exemption we are required to consider the public interest in disclosure. A disclosure under FOI is a disclosure to the public at large and providing specific details of the hardware used will place information into the public domain that may allow individuals to compromise our systems and so place the health of patients at risk. As such it is our view that the public interest is not served by the disclosure of this information.

3. When was the installation date of above storage vendor(s)? (Month/year)

Hewlett Packard- Installed July 2004

NetApp – Installed in December 2013.

4. When is your planned (or estimated) storage refresh date? (Month/year)

The Trust is currently in the process of reviewing its storage architecture, which will reflect on the refresh of the existing solutions – March 2017

5. What is your estimated budget for the refresh?

To be confirmed as the budget will be part of the review work which is on-going at present.

6. What is the capacity of the storage data in TB?

Total capacity 350TB

7. The total number of IT staff employed by the organization:

Total number of IM&T staff is 175

9. Please confirm if you are utilising desktop virtualisation technologies and if so how many users do you provide services for?

Yes the Trust is using VMware Horizon View. Currently this platform serves 3000 virtual desktop users.

10. What backup software do you use?

VERITAS and VEEAM

11. How much data do you backup in TB?

We currently back up 125TB

12. Number of servers?

The Trust currently has 605 servers.

13. What operating system(s) do you use?

Various operating systems from Microsoft for Desktop and Servers

UNIX servers -Managed by supplier

14. Number of virtualised servers?

Currently the Trust has 401 virtualised servers.

15. What percentage of your environment is virtualised?

66%

16. If you outsource your IT works, please provide who it is with and when the contract started and ends.

The overall IT services are delivered via the Trust Internal IM&T department, packages of work may be outsourced as part of projects being delivered, these have various start and end dates.

17. Please also name all of the IT re-sellers that you work with and buy from, as well as the frameworks that you use for the release of any tenders etc.

Various Frameworks used depending on the service/equipment required. Suppliers used in the past include:

·  BT

·  Soft Cat

·  Insight

·  Q Associates

·  SCC

·  Virgin Media

·  Cisco

·  ANS

18. Please also approximate the time spent managing your IT systems, specifically storage, per week in the unit of man hours. Also approximate the amount of time taken carving out LUNs and/or Volumes.

Eight (8) hours administrating SAN per week.

One (1) hour creating LUNS\ Volumes per week.

19. Please list any and all pain points that the IT teams, and organisation as a whole, experience with regard to the storage and usage of the virtualised workloads.

There are no pain points, any issues are internally reviewed and added to the Trust Risk register.

20. How is your storage connected, i.e. via Fibre Channel, Ethernet (NFS or ISCSi). If your storage is currently connected via Fibre Channel, do you have access to 10 GB Ethernet, or 1 GB ethernet, and if so, please declare which.

Storage is connected using both protocols NFS and ISCSi, and is accessed using a Fibre Channel capable of 10GB.
