i have taught math for over 20 years. During that time I have taught most math classes from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus BC I was the Math Department Chair in Midland,TX at Robert E. Lee High School for 7 years. I was very involved in developing curriculum for “at risk” students to lower the drop out rate in our district. We also included technology into our classroom curricula. I taught AP Calculus AB and BC and coached math teams that competed in the Texas UIL contests. Before my work at Robert E. Lee, I taught 7th and 9th grade math at a local Junior High school.
After returning to Colorado, I have continued my interest in developing math curriculum. I attended Colorado School of Mines to further my education and taught college classes at CSM in Calculus, Differential Equations as well as C++ and Software Engineering. I helped develop a lab component of beginning C++ and Data Structures classes and was able to present it to the Association of Assessment in Higher Education. After earning an MS in Math and Computer
Sciences at CSM I completed another MS in Applied Mathematics at CU.
Before obtaining my endorsement in Mathematics in Colorado, I needed to work a year in a Colorado school. I spent 3 years at Excelsior Youth Center and was immersed in developing curriculum for troubled teenage girls. I taught Computer Applications and Mathematics classes at the Center. Most recently I have been teaching at Welby New Technology High School. I was there 2 ½ years. The format of Welby was Project Based Learning. I was the 11th and 12th grade Math teacher. During the 2009-2010 school year I had an AP Calculus class. I was vey involved in making sure we were including Colorado State Standards into our Pre-College math program as well as using computers and calculators. The school was closed in May of 2010.
I am endorsed in Math, Music and Special Ed in Colorado. I am certified in Computer Information Systems in Texas as well. I am very comfortable with diversity in classrooms and using technology whether graphing calculators or computers, smartboards or online courses..
