Implemented capacity building programs at the University of Belize and at the University of Guyana to teach quantitative and field methods in ecology to forestry students.
February 2009 – June 2012: Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development, Guyana
Assistant Forest Manager/Monitoring Manager
Main duties: / Overall supervision and coordination of the protected area’s sustainable forest management and monitoring programmes that included the supervision and coordination of all Forest Ranger activities; planning and execution of pre-harvest and post-harvest forest inventories; establishment and maintenance of permanent sample plots; preparation of Environmental and Forest Management Plans and Annual Operational Plans; implementation of the Forest Fire Protection Plan; assist with audits for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification; and, conduct forestry related research and training programs.
May 2008 – September 2008: Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit (CPSU), London, UK
Assistant Researcher
Main duties: / Professional intern with responsibilities for organization of conferences/workshops related to ongoing environmental projects within the CPSU; report preparation and briefings; updating website information; and, project proposal development focused on the theme of pro-poor forestry initiatives.
September 2005 – September 2007: Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development, Guyana
Professional Development Fellow
Main duties: / Supervised a team of Forest Rangers responsible for forest monitoring and forest research on ecosystem services, and socio-economic aspects of local peoples’ use of forest resources; implementation of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification program, reduced-impact logging guidelines, International Labour Organisation (ISO) and International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) standards for sustainable forest management; conducted training courses for visiting students, Forest Rangers and indigenous communities on sustainable forest management.
2004 – 2005: Natural Resource Management Division, Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC)
Management trainee/Planning Officer
Main duties: / Executed inventories (pre-harvest and post-harvest) – analysed data and prepared reports to inform concessionaires and GFC on forest management plans, production cycles, and adherence to codes-of-practice for timber harvesting; supervised field inventory teams; research on non-timber forest products (NTFPs); developed a draft code-of-practice for mangrove harvesting.
