Job Description

Job Title:Apprentice Maintenance Assistant

Job Holder:To Be Recruited

Reports To:Asset Manager

Job Purpose:To follow a learning programme and to assist in the maintenance of all the Town Council’s physical assets on a day-to-day basis.

Main Responsibilities

  1. To undertake and successfully complete all elements of the Apprenticeship.
  1. To undertake all off the job training as organised with the appointed college or similar training provider.
  1. To undertake all in house training as required.
  1. To work as part of a team with other members of staff.
  1. To use and maintain necessary tools and equipment in accordance with applicable codes of practice.
  1. Wear corporate uniform provided and any relevant personal protective equipment at all times.
  1. Work to a high quality standard ensuring high quality workmanship and maintain an acceptable level of productivity commensurate with skills and experience.
  1. Ensure any comments from the public are politely received, acknowledged and promptly reported to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  1. Follow instructions given by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Assistants.
  1. Complete records that may be required e.g. timesheet etc.
  1. To keep all play areas and recreation grounds free of litter including, emptying and maintaining litterbins in designated areas.
  1. To assist with maintaining the Council’s recreation areas greenspaces, hedges and football pitches, ensuring that beds and borders are in a weed-free condition and that grass areas are cut to the correct height of mowing.
  1. To assist in the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of all of the Council’s buildings and physical assets including street furniture, bus shelters, flower baskets and notice boards.
  1. To assist with the movement of furniture and other articles within and between buildings and premises as necessary.
  1. To observe and report all dead, dying or diseased trees or branches as soon as possible to the Maintenance Supervisor, assisting with arboricultural maintenance by designated staff only when directed to do so by the Asset Manager.
  1. To provide assistance and support for events in which the Town Council is involved e.g. Music in the Park, Carnival, Fair, Remembrance Sunday, Christmas Lights Switch-on Evening, etc. Out of hours and weekend work will be involved with these events. Overtime will be paid or time off in lieu rewarded at the appropriate level.
  1. To assist in the hygiene, tidiness and security of the Depot. Keeping materials, equipment and vehicles in a clean, safe working order.

Additional Information

  1. Based at the Lupton Road Depot.
  1. Work may be undertaken outdoors in all weathers where it is safe to do so.
  1. Heavy lifting and working at heights is involved.
  1. Staff are expected to be polite and helpful to members of the public at all times.

The responsibility for the smooth running of the Authority is incumbent on all members of staff. During times of absence of colleagues or high workloads, you will be expected to help with or take on additional duties and responsibilities that are in line with your grade and capability.
