Volunteer Ministry Position Description

Vacation Bible School (VBS): Camp Counselor/Station Leader Assistant

Purpose: To provide a safe, nurturing and fun environment for children to learn about Jesus and the Catholic faith

Responsible to: Director and Assistant Directors, VBS Station Leaders

Responsibilities:

o  General Responsibilities:

§  Attend Volunteer Orientation meeting.

§  Work well with your Station Leader (if a Station Leader Assistant) or campers (if Camp Counselor).

§  Read and follow all communication from the director in a timely fashion, especially each morning.

§  Be a model of how you want the children to behave. Be kind to and respectful of all.

§  Follow all VBS policies, guidelines and procedures

§  Contact the director or director assistant in advance if you are unable to come for a scheduled day.

§  Tell the director about anything that does not seem right regarding children, program or facility.

o  Qualifications/Skills:

§  Wants to help children grow in faith

§  Has on file at St. Vincent de Paul: Adults: Successful completion of background check, VIRTUS training & signed code of conduct; Minors (Under Age 18): Boundaries and Guidelines training, signed code of conduct and two reference forms

§  Prompt, reliable and friendly

§  Respectful and willing and able to work well with others

Time Required:

o  Five weekday sessions during one week, 3 hours each

Ø  Volunteer Orientation Training: 1.5 hours

o  New Leaders: Adults - Mandatory VIRTUS training (3 hr.); Minors - Boundaries/Guidelines (15 min.)

When and Where: Monday through Friday, June 15 – 19, 2015, 8:30 am (Day 1) 8:45 am (Days 2-5) – 12:00 pm in the Church, Education Center and outside. Children come 9:00 am – 12:00 pm each day.

Training/Support Provided:

o  Mandatory VIRTUS training for new adult group leaders

o  Daily check-in

o  Personal and professional support of the director regarding your questions, ideas, etc.

Length of Commitment: Volunteer Orientation training in June and VBS for one week in June.
