Assessor Facts and Fictions – What your County Assessor really does!:

Josh Johnsen – Olmsted County Commercial Appraisal Supervisor gave a presentation on the responsibilities of the county assessors. Josh’s presentation will be emailed separate from the minutes.

New Minnesota Homestead form:

Carrie Werre with Olmsted County Assessment Services presented information and answered questions on the new homestead application. Copy of handout attached to the email with theses minutes.

Manufactured Home Surrender of Title:

Alyssa Jerde – Attorney with Ward & Oehler Ltd., covered the new forms and process required by the State of Minnesota for surrendering mobile home titles when the mobile home is considered affixed to the property. Copies of the forms attached to the email with these minutes.

Prepayment of 2018 property taxes:

The tax law changes in December created a huge influx of property owners to pre-pay their 2018 property taxes. For the real estate closing companies, this has created concern on how it will affect the closing transaction. There was an open forum discussion on how this would affect closing numbers.

County Recorder Updates:

Reminder from all counties:

Please take the time to complete all the information on the eCRV and review before you submit. If required information is missing or incorrect, your document package will be rejected.

Fillmore:

  • A security system is being installed in their courthouse.
  • Also commented on a checklist to get better info on septic system compliances.

Winona:

  • During 2018 plan to electronically record all types of real estate documents.
  • Recordings up and home sales up 4%

Olmsted:

  • Office remodel going on until mid April. Passport office moving over merging with the customer service representatives. Public viewing room will be to the right of the information desk. Tax statements will be mailed out end of March.

Mower:

  • New staff – request patience during training process

Houston:

  • Nothing to update at this time.

Steele:

  • Back indexing 1977

Wabasha, Goodhue, Freeborn & Dodge: No representation.

Next meeting date ~ May2nd2018 ~ Hosted by Steele County Recorder’s Office and will be held at Cabela’s in Owatonna.
