Whereas, being a member of a sports team affords young people the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to become a champion in softball, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, by putting together all of their energy and skills, Head Coach Maria Rowland, Coach Ann Geddings, and the girls’ softball team of Laurence Manning Academy defeated almost every opponent this season to become state champions; and

Whereas, during the State Championship Tournament on May 9 and 10, 2003, the “Lady Swampcats” faced competitors from across the State, but overcame them all, including victories on Saturday over Florence Christian by a score of 43, over Orangeburg Prep by a score of 42, and over Northwood Academy by a score of 92; and

Whereas, with three wins in the tournament, the Laurence Manning Academy “Lady Swampcats” finished their season with twentytwo victories and only three losses and captured the 2003 SCISA Class AAA Girls’ Softball State Championship Title, putting this year’s team among the best in the school’s history along with the 1998 and 2000 Girls’ Softball State Champion Teams; and

Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Stephanie Larkins, Savannah Parnell, Stacie Newman, Leah Bleasdale, Michelle Amerson, Ginny Griffin, Lynanne Wampler, Melissa Ard, Brittany Healon, Francis Gatlin, Charlotte Anderson, Brittany Godwin, Ashley Healon, and Lauren Pritchard; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly congratulate this amazing group of young women on winning this truly deserved championship and wish each of them much success in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
