JOHN NEEDHAM MEMORIAL TRUST FUND
The John Needham Memorial Trust Fund was set-up to commemorate the work of John Needham who was a former Bolton Senior Youth Officer.
The object of the fund is to provide financial assistance to young people from the district of Bolton to enable them to take part in a “once in a lifetime” event which will broaden their horizons in an educational or social sense.
All applications for financial assistance are measured by the Trustees against the following criteria:
1. The applicant must live within the district of Bolton.
2. The applicant must be between the ages of 13 – 19 years old (up to 25 for those with special needs)
3. The opportunity must benefit the individual and broaden their horizons.
4. The applicant needs to show why the funding/support is needed.
5. The applicant needs to show how much of the funding has already been raised.
6. The applicant must be sponsored by an adult from an organisation, a parent or a school.
7. The applicant should outline the outcomes of the opportunity and make a commitment to reporting to the trustees, highlighting the benefits gained.
8. As the trustees only meet twice per year, once in February and once in September, it essential applications are received prior to these months to be considered.

The Fund
John Needham was Bolton’s Senior Youth Officer for many years and died tragically before he was able to fully achieve his ambitions for the young people of Bolton.
John Needham was greatly admired by many involved in youth work in the town and the fund was established to provide financial assistance for young people aged 13 – 19 (25 for those with special needs) from the Bolton area who wanted to undertake a “once in a lifetime” project, to achieve their full potential in their educational, physical and social development, otherwise beyond their financial means. For example the fund has enabled young people to take part in the Operations Raleigh Scheme going to Papua, New Guinea, a youth employment exchange trip to Belfast and helped Brian Aspen, the Bolton Wrestler, to fund his trip to the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
