Course outline: Bible 8 History of the World in Christian Perspective

Unit Description: This unit focuses on the story of God and man with an emphasis on the bigger picture. Students will develop through knowledge an appreciation of world history and how it relates directly to Biblical events.

Objectives:

Students will understand the major characteristics of ancient civilizations and how they directly influenced the Hebrew People. They will know and develop a chronological viewpoint of these events in History and be able to relate them to Biblical stories and events. We will cover creation through to the years of silence.

Essential questions for study

·  Can students explain how the Jewish nation was formed?

·  Can students identify and write the major civilizations in ancient history in the Middle East?

·  Can students relate the biblical events and people to these other civilizations?

·  Can students identify early archeological finds and their relevance to Biblical understanding?

·  To appreciated the development of writing and language

·  Why is it important to document history, religious belief and stories?

·  Can students explain the difference between a primary source and a secondary source and use both to describe world civilizations?

·  Can students identify what a civilization is? Advances in six areas, political, agriculture, architecture and art, religious beliefs, economics and written language.

·  What lasting achievements to these ancient civilizations leave for others?

·  How has war impacted these people groups?

·  How did these ancient civilizations interact with the Hebrew people and how did they influence one another?
