Assignment 1 – Exploring Wall and Floor Tiling Principles and Techniques
Scenario:
You have started work as a trainee for a company that specializes in ceramic wall and floor tiling of domestic kitchens and bathrooms
A client, MrSimic, has awarded the company you work for a contract to perform wall and floor tiling on a housing refurbishment project. As a trainee you will be working on this project.
Before you begin, you should explain the tools, equipment and materials you will be using and complete a risk assessment.

P1- Explain how tools, materials and equipment are used in both Wall and Floor Tiling tasks.
P2- Explain how to SAFELY use the tools, materials and equipment mentioned inP1 and why you should use them safely.
P3 – Carry out a risk assessment prior to to starting the wall and floor tiling activities.

P4-Comply with safe working practices including the use of appropriate PPE- (Personal Protective Equipment.)

P5-Prepare areas - setting out both wall and floor tiling.
P6- Fix tiles to wall and floor area to follow Mr.Simic’s specification.
M1 –Justify the selection of tools, materials and equipment for a specific wall and floor tiling task.
M2 - To achieve M2you will need to tile the wall and floor to the client’s specification as inP5- however the tiles must be fully bonded, fixed with full beds, have ajoint tolerance of ± 5mm, cutting trim within 3mm and grout uniform for 1m² of both wall and floor.
D1 – Evaluate the use of alternative materials for a specific wall and floor tiling task.
D2 - To achieve D2you need to tile the wall and floor to the client’s specification as inP5 and M2- however the tiles must be fully bonded, fixed with full beds, have ajoint tolerance of ± 3mm, cutting trim within 2mm and grout uniform for 1m² of both wall and floor area.

Scenario:

MrSimic requires his bathroom to be tiled. The wall and floor areas to be tiled measure 1000mm wide and 1000mm high. The wall and floor must include a neat grout finish with trim bead.

P5

To achieve P5 you need to tile a bathroom wall and floor for MrSimic. Both the wall and floor must measure1m² and include grout and trim.
