INITIAL IFSP IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING CORE EVALUATION

POLICY:

Development of the Initial IFSP Immediately Following the Core Evaluation

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY:

Under certain circumstances and at the discretion of the Initial Service Coordinator, the IFSP may be developed immediately after the core evaluation with parental consent.

PROCEDURE:

The following conditions must be met prior to the IFSP being done:

  1. The parent must give consent;
  2. The parent must be given a handwritten summary of the evaluation results and recommendations (see samples attached).

Circumstances that are appropriate for developing the IFSP immediately after the evaluation are, but not limited to:

  • The parent has previously been through the Early Intervention process with another child and understands the process;
  • The child has a diagnosed condition, and the need for services is evident;
  • The child’s needs are evident, and the parent agrees or requests that services begin as soon as possible.

The conditions and circumstances may be discussed with the parent at the intake visit, and permission obtained at that time.

Written confirmation to the parent and written notification to the evaluation team regarding immediate IFSP meeting following the core evaluation will be provided by the Service Coordinator.
