Position Summary: This is a management position involving responsibility for the provision of sound and timely financial information to the hospital’s Board, Executive Team and department/service leaders as well as the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Responsibilities include policy formulation, planning, decision-making and the provision of leadership to Finance department and other financial, accounting, or auditing staff or consultants.Staff Leadership
Formulates and monitors goals, policies and procedures to ensure activities support the overall goals and objectives of the organization. Collaborates with other staff and departments and represents Finance on committees. Identifies and addresses quality improvement activities. Identifies resource needs, including human, financial and technical systems. Develops, monitors and adjusts staff workload. Supervises the Manager of Finance; provides training and development; provides timely feedback. Provides guidance with respect to accounting issues and any other issues affecting the department. Responsible for recruitment, orientation, scheduling and ongoing evaluation and discipline of direct reports. Ultimately responsible for working with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) under the terms of the Service Level Agreement for Finance. Manages the department budget (operating and capital).
Financial Management
Maintains control environment/Supports Board Finance Committee/Supports Board Audit Committee. Represents hospital on Joint Investment Committee. Is primary point of contact for Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care on financial, accounting, and reporting issues. Coordinates Fiscal Advisory Committee. Provides advice to Executive Team on financial and accounting matters, such as budget assumptions. Provides support for corporate initiatives and special projects. Leads capital equipment budgeting, monitoring, and variance analysis. Leads capital project accounting. Maintains physician contracts. Maintain effective working relationship with SHSC Finance department staff. Participate in transition to HBS when and if needed. Liaise with IT to ensure access to WCH information Ensures all information is presented to the auditors in a timely and accurate manner to meet deadlinesCoordinates preparation and reviews year-end schedules required by the auditors prior to the audit. Prepares the external financial statements. Responds to questions from the auditors. Develops the timetable for the preparation of monthly internal and quarterly external financial statements. Develops an accurate and sustainable reporting process. Develops, monitors and maintains an acceptable timetable for the preparation of all financial reporting. Resolves financial reporting issues. Ensures that financial statements are timely and accurate. Reviews and analyses the financial statement for material and unusual variances. Ensures department managers are provided with all necessary financial information.
Qualifications/Skills:
Completion of a recognized accounting designation CA, CGA, CMA required. Completion of, or near completion of a Masters degree preferred
