STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title / Food First Coordinator
Reports To / General Brock Retail Manager
Start Date / September 2018
End Date / April 2019
Hours / 12-18 hours per week
Remuneration / $14.50 per hour

SECTION 1: PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

The Food First program is looking for a dynamic individual who has a strong interest in helping to address food and health insecurity among the university student body. The Food First coordinator will work on administrative processes, manage the end-user experiences (website, orders, etc.), and represent the program in a professional manner. Along with other assistant coordinators or BUSU representatives, the coordinator will work on campaigns, workshops and research for the program throughout the duration of their term.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the operation of the Food First program.
  • Develop, deliver and maintain new and existing methodology to address the shifting concerns in food and health insecurity among the university student body.
  • Seek new ways to enhance and optimize the Food First Program.
  • Manage, count and stock the physical and virtual inventory systems
  • Place, receive and document wholesale orders of product available to students
  • Work with the Marketing and Advocacy teams to create campaigns related to the Food First Program.
  • Collect and analyze anonymous and confidential data with regards to the Food First program.
  • Represent the Food First program professionally within the Brock University Students’ Union and its subsidiary platforms, as well as any external third parties.
  • Manage external and internal affairs with regards to program management.
  • Supervise and direct volunteers to assist with the distribution of product, campaign initiatives and/or community representation
  • Engage in research on issues related to food and healthy insecurity among post-secondary students as requested.

SECTION 2: POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong ability to uphold confidentiality and use discretion when addressing sensitive issues.
  • Customer service experience, or a demonstrated professionalism in communication
  • Computer Skills - familiarity with internet communication, social media, databases and document processing
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively, efficiently and independently under a wide variety of conditions
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Interested in diversity issues and promoting an accepting and inclusive post-secondary community
  • Outgoing and comfortable interacting with the public at events, when staffing the end-user experience, and with internal or external affairs.
  • Must have a minimum 60% academic average at the time of their application as confirmed by the registrar’s office
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Must be a registered undergraduate at Brock University.

SECTION 3: HUMAN RELATIONS, PROBLEM SOLVING AND ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Daily contact with General Brock Store Manager and GB staff.
  • Daily contact with the student body using the Food First Program.
  • Occasional contact with staff members of the University when working on special projects.
  • Occasional contact with general public at special events.
  • Occasional contact with the Executives and Advocacy team.
  • Ability to provide feedback in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Manage the various tasks and projects assigned at once.
  • Resolve logistical conflicts that may arise.

SECTION 4: WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • The majority of this position does not require a high level of physical activity. However, the coordinator may need to engage occasionally in heavy lifting when receiving, moving, loading or unloading products or materials for the program.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Retail store environment. Maintaining a clean, organized and safe storage facility for products and materials related to the program. The storage facility is comprised of shelving units with a maximum weight capacity that must be strictly adhered to. Working with others in a shared space. Respectful and work-oriented with all colleagues and individuals both in and outside of the space.

SENSORY ABILITIES

  • Ability to work with a computer, computer systems and communication tools. Ability to communicate with students, staff and community members. Ability to recognize and understand body language and cultural influences.

MENTAL STRESS

  • This position deals with a variety of sensitive subjects concerning differing beliefs, opinions and societal ideologies. The coordinator must be able to maintain professional integrity when overseeing events, program initiatives and communication with others.
