POSTER BOOK REPORT

Name:

Materials needed:

v  A piece of bristol board

v  Paper on which to type your information

v  Markers, coloured pencils, glue

v  Shapes made from construction paper

Time:

You will have class time to read your novel as well as you may use time when other class work is completed to work on your report. Your assignment is due on Thursday, December 17, at the start of class.

Directions:

1.  Choose one of the four novels presented to read. Complete a reading log after every time you read your book. You must complete at least 5 logs.

2.  Using your story theme, decide on interesting story shapes on which to write. For example, if you were using Charlotte’s Web, you might cut out the shape of a pig to write about your three main characters. You could also use a heart shape to write about the plot, climax and ending since the theme is friendship. You will need five of these shapes. The poster title should be larger than the other print and it should look attractive. BE NEAT!

Shape #1: Setting

When and where did the story take place?

Shape #2: Characters

List three main characters and tell why they are important.

Shape #3: Main Events

List, in chronological order (the order in which they occur), five main events from the story.

Shape #4: Plot, climax, ending

Plot: What problem did the main character have to solve?

Climax: What is the most exciting part of the story?

Ending: Were you satisfied with the way the story ended? Why or why not?

Shape #5: Illustration

Draw a picture of your favourite part of the story. Colour it carefully. Add a sentence at the bottom describing it.
