New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission

Additional Dealer Plate Procedure

Effective 12/1/03

Before you order additional sets of dealer plates, it is advisable that you do a complete inventory of the plates you have on hand. You can fax that list to New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) (fax number 609.292.5153) along with a copy of your wall license. MVC will review their records and compare them to the list you provided. It is advisable to correct and resolve any differences before you request additional plates. Once you receive a response from MVC and if you are missing any plates, you must report them to the police and forward that police report to MVC along with your request for additional plates.

When requesting additional sets of dealer plates, NJMVC will require the following information:

Ø  Letter explaining the necessity of ordering additional sets of plates. Letter should be addressed to:

Ms. Yvonne Dawkins, Manager

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission

Business License Compliance Unit

P.O. Box 171

225 East State Street, 4th Floor

Trenton, NJ 08666

Ø  Check payable to “NJMVC” for $158.50 per set of five plates.

Ø  Copy of current Motor Vehicle wall license.

Ø  Dealership must provide a complete listing of all plates currently on hand in the dealership. Listing must include the name and driver’s license number for each individual currently assigned a dealer plate and the number of the plate assigned to them. If any plates are available for ‘demo’ purposes, note that on the form. NJCAR has developed a form for your use which can be photocopied. (Copy attached.)

Ø  Submit an insurance certificate which reflects the TOTAL number of dealer plates covered under the policy. The total must include the number of current plates and the number of additional plates requested. Certificate holder must read as follows:

NJMVC – Dealer Licensing

P.O. Box 171

Trenton, NJ 08666

During the Motor Vehicle wall license renewal period (January 1 through April 1), NJMVC cannot place any additional/replacement dealer plate orders. You must order the plates prior to January 1 or after April 1.

If your dealership is requesting ‘Courtesy’ dealer plates, please contact NJ CAR for the specific procedure to order them.
