Meeting Minutes
January 3, 2011

Opening:
The regular meeting of the Lawnton Elementary PTO was called to order at 6:37 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Lawnton Elementary Library by Lisarose Kreiss, President. Sherri Radle recorded the proceedings.
Approval of the Minutes
Motion to approve minutes from the December 13, 2010 meeting made by Sarah Ordille; seconded by Carolyn Dorazio. Minutes approved.
Principal’s Report – Ms. Willis
Ms. Willis reported that the winter benchmarks (formerly DIBELS) will take place on January 6 and 7. After all assessments have been completed, all information will be input into the system. The Data Team composed of people within Lawnton will look at how the kids are performing compared to where they are expected to be. Foresight testing will also be done. Skills groups will be reevaluated, if necessary.
The Title I Parent Involvement Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 8 at 5:30, prior the PTO meeting. Ms. Willis will be looking for feedback on the forms that come home regarding the benchmark testing. “How can we better communicate this information?”
Thank you for the student gifts and teacher/classroom gifts for Christmas.
Grades 3-5 will begin using the Houghton Mifflin Reading program next school year.
Report cards will be distributed on February 2.
President’s Report – Lisarose Kreiss
Thanks to everyone who helped make the Holiday Parties and the arrival of Santa a success.
Special thanks to Allison and Jay States for assisting Santa with the children’s gifts this year.
Teacher Appreciation for January – Mr. Brumfield and Mrs. Hutchison
Treasurer’s Report – No report was shared as our Treasurer was sunning in Miami at the time of the meeting.
Committee Reports
Bingo Night – Friday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. Craig Powers has some prizes already, will try to get a gift card donation from Macy’s. Sign-up sheet distributed for baked goods, etc. LeAnne Conaway and Allison States have been asked to use their bargain hunter skills to obtain more prizes.
Scholarship – Sherri Radle reported that applications have been copied and mailed to CDEHS, CDHS, Dauphin County Vo-Tech and Bishop McDevitt. Extra copies are in the Lawnton office. There will also be some on hand at Senior Night. Notice has been place in The Patriot-News, The Guide News, and The Paxton Herald, as per normal procedure. Applications are due April 13.
Yearbook – Carolyn Dorazio and Kat Dixon – Photographs are still being collected for the yearbook.
Teacher’s Luncheon, Friday, February 4 – Soup, salad and sandwiches will be provided during parent/teacher conference day.
PTO Shed – Kat Dixon and Lisarose Kreiss – We will be sitting down with Vo-Tech to draw up final finals. The plans will then be taken to Home Depot to see what they are willing to donate. The Vo-Tech students will be doing the work. A motion was made and approved to providelunch on the days they are building the shed.
Fundraising – Gertrude Hawk has been contacted for a “taste date” to kick off the Easter Candy fundraiser.
PAC – There was no December PAC meeting.
A+ Rewards at Giant – 90 people have signed up and we have earned $538.71 so far.
Box Tops for Education – Next collection will be Friday, February 18. Jannell did get a new login with Campbell’s and is able to submit labels there, as well.
New Business
Thank you cards from various people were shared.
Jennifer Krause is looking into the CapriSun collection.
No update on the fifth grade field trip. Trying to decide on a fundraiser to help offset costs of the trip.
Sub Sales are planned for early 2011.
Miss Mohn’s music budget has been cut in half. She would like to do a 60’s medley for the spring concert and is looking for $50-$110 support from the PTO. A motion was made by Sarah Ordille, seconded by Dawn Ramsey, and approved to give $60 to Miss Mohn, in addition to the $50 that she was already allotted in the budget. The $50 comes from the Yearbook line item to Ms. Mohn’s School/Teacher fund. She has requested $104.00 be budgeted for next year for music K-8 that is used in the classroom.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. by motion from Dawn Ramsey; seconded by Lisarose Kreiss.
