CALL FOR PRESENTERS

Deadline for submission: November 1, 2016

This call for presentations invites you to submit a proposal for our 2017 State Conference. We strongly encourage you to share your insights and expertise by presenting a concurrent workshop or a poster session.

Presentation Format Descriptions:

Concurrent Session Presentations are usually 60-90 minutes in length. These may include lectures or demonstrations, reports of research design or results, hands-on workshops, or effective presentations of other relevant information. This format may include a panel of speakers who provide views on a specific topic. Panel presentations should be limited to four speakers. Concurrent presentations will take place during all days of the conference.

Two new things to consider this year:

Participants will be asked to choose sessions when they register for the conference. This will allow us to put your session in an appropriate size room so everyone will be comfortable. If there is a large number of people who want a session, we may ask you to present your material twice to accommodate them all rather than crowd everyone in. This also gives us the opportunity to offer more of the sessions people really want. If you feel you need to limit the number of people allowed into your session, please give that number so registrants will know to sign up early

The other thing about this conference is the theme. We are asking each presenter to tie their session title to a Beatles song title. Have fun with this! If you are stuck, please feel free to contact Teresa Osborne, Conference Chair, for help and ideas.

Poster Presentations provide an informal forum for information sharing and discussion. Poster presentations are self-explanatory displays of information. Poster presenters personally attend their displays at assigned time periods in order to provide additional information and to discuss the topics with attendees. Conference participants circulate through the poster session and interact with the presenters on a one-on-one basis. Proposals for poster presentations should follow the same format and submission process as concurrent session proposals.

Selection: Conference Sessions and Poster Sessions will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

Ø  Does the topic present a practical application and demonstrate effectiveness for the education or rehabilitation of visually impaired individuals?

Ø  Is the topic of interest and usefulness to a multitude of conference attendees?

Ø  Is the topic important and relevant to the needs of blind or visually impaired individuals or the professionals who serve?

Ø  Does the topic provide significant or innovative ideas or research findings that bring fresh insight or approaches?

Ø  Does the topic present a new or expanded perspective, practice, program, or innovation?

Ø  Does the topic fit into the content strands of the conference and add balance to the overall program?

Ø  Has this topic been presented at a recent Conference?

Submitter Responsibilities: Conference Handouts

·  In our effort to conduct a “green” conference by employing environmentally responsible practices, we will compile all handouts electronically and provide the full collection of handouts to each conference participant on a flash drive when they arrive at the registration desk. This will make all conference handouts accessible to all conference participants.

·  Presenters are required to provide their handouts on a jump drive or as an email attachment no later than February 1, 2017. Files should be submitted as PDF documents, if possible, or in one of the Microsoft Office formats.

Submissions must include an abstract of the presentation and the primary learning objective. These are required for ACVREP approval. You must also include a brief (50 words or less) professional profile. If your session is approved, the abstract, bio and a photo will be printed in the conference program.

Conference Presentation Format: Upon request, presenters will be provided a microphone, projector and/or screen. Conference presentations should include best practices, research citations, instructional techniques, etc.

Poster Presentation Format: Presenters will be provided "table space* and should be prepared to visually display information about projects, programs, instructional techniques, methods, etc; discuss points of interest with conference attendees, and distribute written reports, handouts, and/or other materials. *Depending on number of respondents selected, table space may be limited to ½ of a six-foot table. If additional space is needed, please clarify on submission form.

Notification of Acceptance: You will be notified via phone and email of the status of your submission by November 18, 2016.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the submission process, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your consideration.
