A Centennial Masterpiece Not to be Missed

Signature Centennial Event Kingsport POPS to celebrate Independence Day on July 4

Kingsport, TN – Kingsport celebrates its 100th Independence Day this year and it will be one for the history books. The city is taking its annual Fourth of July celebration to the next level – with Symphony of the Mountains as the entertainment. Get in the spirit with the Fourth of July Parade at 10:00 am that morning, and then get ready for a night of fun in downtown Kingsport with live music, Josh Smith from WJHL, a Honda Civic giveaway, food trucks, spectacular fireworks and more!

The first set will pay tribute to Kingsport’s centennial and the wonderful attributes of this area, showcasing local artists like Carla Karst, Andrew Kramer, and Clark Parker. The second set will be patriotic in nature to celebrate Independence Day and all those who have sacrificed for our nation. Raymond McLain, world-renowned bluegrass artist, and family will take the stage late in the performance with a big surprise for Kingsport’s birthday!

During intermission, Honda Kingsport will announce the winner of the brand new 2017 Honda Civic. He or she will be given the keys to a new car! Must be present to win.

In traditional fashion, Kingsport’s Fourth of July celebration will conclude with fireworks. At the end of the night, fireworks will light up the sky in coordination with the Symphony of the Mountain playing the famous 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever.

Attendees should arrive early for a good spot near the stage on Broad Street in Downtown Kingsport. Starting at 5:00 p.m., food trucks and downtown restaurants will be ready to serve up some of the best local food and beverages. Official centennial t-shirts will be available for sale starting at 6pm. Kingsport POPS begins at 7pm.

Founded in 1917, theCity of Kingsport (pop. 53,000) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern U.S. The city is widely known as a planned community, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3,500 acre park, nature preserve, planetarium and observatory. Kingsport is recognized as an International Safe Community by the National Safety Council, a Healthier Tennessee community, and won the 2009 Harvard Innovations in American Government Award for its higher education initiatives.
