Canopy Tour Guide Position

Thank you for considering applying for a position as a Tour Guide with Hollybank Treetops Adventure (HTA).

The Process:

There are two stages to the HTA recruitment process for tour guide positions.

Stage one consists of an interview process and stage two involves a practical assessment.

Following the interview process, those that are selected as suitable candidates shall proceed to the next stage which is a 2 day practical assessment to assess suitability for the position. The 2 day practical assessment is part of the recruitment process and participants are not considered to be employees and therefore participation is unpaid. Following the practical assessment to assess suitability, HTA may formally offer you employment as a tour guide employee where there will be an additional 3 days training before you start guiding tours, from this you start a ‘shaddowing’ period where you are guiding the tour and there is an experienced guide with you at all times. Such offer shall be provided in writing, and is subject to HTA requirements.

Position Description

Hollybank Treetops Adventure offers exciting opportunities for people to enter into the tourism industry. Guiding can be an exciting and rewarding career that presents many wonderful and diverse challenges.

Guides will be responsible for ensuring that small groups of guests safely enjoy a breathtaking ride on cable spans ranging from 15 metres to 400 metres long and up to 50 metres above the forest floor.

·  own reliable transport; and

·  flexibility with working hours as tours operate morning, afternoon and night seven days a week.

Canopy Tour Guides commence employment as a Trainee Canopy Guide and remain at this level for a period of three (3) months. On successful completion of relevant competency-based training, a Trainee Canopy Tour Guide will perform the role of the Back Guide on Canopy Tours assisting the Front Guide in guiding canopy tours, in accordance with standard operating procedures.

The Back Guide is expected to impart safety skills and knowledge and provide environmental interpretation to customers. Some of the duties required of a Back Guide are:

·  greeting and directing customers at the facility;

·  assisting with the setup of tours and customer inductions;

·  releasing guests from Platforms;

·  providing interpretation commentary;

·  evacuating guests off the system;

·  ensuring compliance with safety procedures;

·  assisting with the maintenance and inspection of the facility;

·  the promotion of minimal environmental strategies;

·  providing first aid to staff and/or customers as required; and

·  any other duties at the direction of the Employer.
