Job Title: Public Relations Office
NJC Scale Point: Pt 22-30

Hours: 18.5 per week

Annual Leave: 26 days plus statutory and bank holidays (1 additional day
after each year of service, up to a maximum of 31 days).
Location: Bath
Pension: Contributory pension scheme (employers contribution
7% to a minimum 3% contribution from employee).
Accountable to: Chief Executive
Principle Purpose of the Job

DHI’s underlying strategy is one of being a “Product Leader” through innovation in the development and delivery of social care for the socially excluded.

Like many in our sector, DHI is reliant on contract funding for its core services. As a result of the current political and economic climate, funding from this source looks set to reduce over the years. In order to fulfil our strategic aims, we need to ensure that our work is well known both locally and nationally, as well as to look for new sources of funding to continue to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our core client group.

The principle purpose of the role is to raise the profile and support base for DHI through marketing, events and public relations. This includes particular responsibility for: developing DHI’s ‘Friends Of’ Scheme and producing its quarterly newsletter; keeping the website up to date with news and events; organizing the annual event and Reach Out conference, co-ordinating the production of leaflets and other publications including the annual review.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Duties
  1. Working closely with CEO to review our PR and Fundraising Strategy to include:
  • setting and agreeing appropriate targets and outcome measures for profile raising, linked to DHI’s wider projects and services
  • defining the key messages and media to support that aim locally and nationally
  • establishing an imaginative calendar of events, corporate sponsorship and donor programmes and publicity
  • develop DHI’s ‘Friends Of’ scheme to deliver ambassadorial support for DHI and, eventually, individual donations towards the fundraising target
  1. To build strong links with external agencies and various local and national media, producing publicity and supporting materials to promote, market and advertise forthcoming events
  1. To work with the CEO to develop the annual report and plan and co-ordinate DHI’s annual event.
  1. Supporting the COE to develop and manage a realistic budget to support DHI’s public relations work.
  1. Designing, producing and evaluating events, programmes and publicity
  1. Building strong links with local businesses to maximize the opportunity that the value of corporate social responsibility offers to DHI
  1. Establishing the processes and systems to administer and accurately record information on donors, donor contact and preferences
  1. Developing clear and engaging internal communications which inform and inspire employees across the various DHI sites
  1. Monitoring and evaluating the PR and Fundraising Strategy and supporting processes, reporting against agreed measures and outcomes to identified audiences
  2. Co-ordinating the production of leaflets and other publications to ensure consistency of brand and quality.

Organisational Responsibilities

  1. To participate in the strategic planning process and contribute to the establishment of DHI’s business plan and balanced scorecard, proactively identify new business opportunities and report back to CEO.
  1. Prepare and present clear verbal/written reports for the CEO, Board of Directors and other bodies as required.
  1. Liaise effectively with the Director of Operations and all other teams of DHI to ensure the proper delivery of internal services.
  1. Any other duties in line with the above as required by the CEO.
  1. At all times adhere to contract requirements, relevant legislation, good practice and DHI policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Confidentiality and Equal and Diversity.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Skills

  • Creative with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional networking and relationship building skills
  • Exceptionally well- organised and planned, highly capable administrator able to co-ordinate event suppliers (venues, caterers, press, exhibitions, IT equipment etc)
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office, databases, internet and email)
  • Track record of designing and producing events, talks and presentations
  • Demonstrating commitment and openness to diversity in all its forms, anti-discriminatory policy and practice

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of the issues faced by one or a number of DHI’s core client groups
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Familiar with a range of media (including digital media) to promote and publicise DHI’s activities and services
  • Writing copy and press articles, dealing with local and national press
  • Experienced budget holder with financial management skills
  • Access to own transport and willingness to travel
