“Connecting Current Events” Assignment
Honors World History
Mr. Latimer
Students will complete and turn in a current event report of at least three paragraphs. The purpose of the assignment is to connect the topic we are covering in class to a current event.
A copy of the original articles needs to be attached or the web address included from the internet from the following acceptable papers/sites: Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Daily News, Wall Street Journal, or Washington Post.

Articles must be news of either a political, economic, or business nature. The news article should be of a local, national or international nature.
Assignments will be due when instructed but may be turned in earlier. The report can be either typed or hand-written. Anyone caught plagiarizing from the internet or from another student will receive a zero on the assignment, a phone call home, and further punishments if necessary.
Reports must include the following criteria:
Name of source
Date of article (must be from within the past month)
Article must be attached to the back of the reportor the web address included
Should us the 5 Ws format: the who, what, where, when, and why of thestory
Explain how the article connects (compare & contrast) to the topic being covered
in class
Your analysis of the story / why it is important
At least three good paragraphs
First paragraph – summarize the topic covered in class.
Second paragraph – summarize the current news article that’s related to the topic.
Third paragraph – explain why/how the two topics are related, your analysis, and why it’s
important.
