Could you become an Arthritis Champion and make a real difference to the health and well- being of people with arthritis?
Main aspects of the Champion Volunteer role
Arthritis Championswill:
- Provide peer support, information and awareness, self management techniques and signposting for people with arthritis in Chester
- Develop positive relationships with local community groups and health and social care professionals
- Arrange community talks, presentations and arthritis awareness workshops
- Promote membership of Patient Participation Groups and begin to build a picture of local services for people with arthritis
- Be an advocate of the mission and services of Arthritis Care
- Engage with full training and supervision
Time Commitment
The role will require 15 - 20 hours per month and a commitment for a twelve-month period. This can be fitted flexibly around your current commitments.
Arthritis Care can offer you:
- Training for your role – eight half days spread over six-months
- Ongoing supervision
- Information and materials
- Reimbursement of agreed out of pocket expenses incurred while carrying out activities on behalf of Arthritis Care

What we are looking for:
As a guide, we’re looking for our Arthritis Champions to have the following skills and experience:
Skills and competencies:
- Willingness to act as an ambassador for Arthritis Care at all times (E)
- Good presentational skills (E)
- Good written and verbal communication skills (E)
- Basic computer skills e.g. email. Microsoft Word and ability to use or learn to use PowerPoint (D)
- A positive attitude to self managing arthritis (E)
- A friendly approach (E)
Personal experience:
- Be a person with arthritis or care for/be close to a person with arthritis (E)
- Have some knowledge of communityor NHS services in and around Chester (D)
- Have a strong interest in improving services for people with arthritis locally (E)
