A RESOLUTION Adjourning the House of Representatives in Recognition of the Kentucky Saves

A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in recognition of the Kentucky Saves Campaign.

WHEREAS, Kentucky Saves is part of the America Saves Initiative and led by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in partnership with the Kentucky Jump$tart Coalition; and

WHEREAS, Kentucky Saves believes that every American, regardless of income, has the ability to create wealth that will improve their quality of life. In the spirit of this mission, Kentucky Saves encourages Kentuckians to implement basic strategies to improve their financial situations; and

WHEREAS, the theme of the 2014 Kentucky Saves Campaign is "Set a Goal. Make a Plan. Save Automatically." Currently, 350 Kentuckians have enrolled in the program, pledging to save a total of almost $32,000 per month. The most popular goals include saving for emergencies, education, and outstanding debt, and putting money aside to buy a home; and

WHEREAS, to inspire Kentucky's youth to begin saving and practicing positive financial habits, the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service recently hosted the 4th Annual Piggy Bank Design Contest for children in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Two winners were selected from each of the seven Cooperative Extension districts, and those winners' exhibits will be displayed in the Capitol Building during the month of February. A recognition ceremony for the winning youth will be held in the Capitol Rotunda on February 25, 2014; and

WHEREAS, this honorable body hereby recognizes Kentucky Saves and the 2014 Kentucky Saves Campaign for reminding individuals that small savings will create wealth; acknowledges the good work Kentucky Saves has done for the citizens of this Commonwealth; and wishes everyone involved with the 2014 Kentucky Saves Campaign the utmost success as they continue their commendable work;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives recognizes the Kentucky Saves Campaign for helping Kentuckians save money for their future, and rightfully acknowledges Kentucky Saves' extraordinary work in the financial well-being of this Commonwealth's citizens.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the Kentucky Saves Campaign.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Rita Smart.
