Accelerated Reader & Renaissance

Home Connect™

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We are pleased to offer you access to Renaissance Home Connect as a way of monitoring and encouraging your son’s reading practice.

Research confirms that parental involvement in a child’s education is a strong predictor of pupil achievement.

Thank you for your involvement in your son’s education.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What is Renaissance Home Connect?

Renaissance Home Connect is a tool that connects Portora and home to keep parents informed of their child’s progress in Accelerated Reader. Home Connect also encourages your son to practice reading at home.

How does Renaissance Home Connect help me improve my child’s reading progress?

• You can view your son’s progress toward reading targets and reader certification, and view all books that your son has read and quizzes he has taken.

• You can view all words your son has learned through Vocabulary Practice Quizzes. In addition, words he missed are clearly marked so you can help him learn those words.

• You can access an online search tool, AR BookFinder, to search for books using various criteria, including author, subject or reading level.

• You can receive emails that reveal results for Reading Practice Quizzes and Vocabulary Practice Quizzes. The emails also provide links to the Website where you can check progress.

How do I get access to Renaissance Home Connect?

The Web address for Renaissance Home Connect, login and password are shown on the front of this booklet. These are the same login and password that your son uses at school to access Accelerated Reader.

What if I have questions about using Renaissance Home Connect?

Contact Mrs Armstrong (librarian) or your son’s English teacher if you need help using Renaissance Home Connect or have questions about Accelerated Reader.

Bookmarks

Your son has been given the target of reading an average of at least 15 mins per night. To help monitor this, your son has been given a bookmark on which to record his reading progress. Please check your son’s reading progress regularly and sign his bookmark.

14 plus books

Some books in our library are rated for the 14 plus age group. Should your son select one of these books a note will be made in his planner. Please check that you are agreeable to him reading this book. In the majority of cases the content is acceptable but should you prefer that he not read it please ask him to return the book.
