Message From The Bridge.

Shipmates we have harvested the Fruit of our labor and now we can enjoy the rewards. For the gardeners in the crew I hope that you have had a good crop. For those that do not, may you find local produce at fair prices?

Hunting season is upon us once again and we encourage the Hunters to hunt with care, safety and skill.

During the summer (2nd of August) ADPNA held our annual outing and barbeque. From all reports shipmates enjoyed the day of light fun and delicious food. Getting together is always a pleasure and good times for our members and guests.

We will be traveling to Yarmouth to attend the Maple Grove & Yarmouth High Memorial Club Service being held on November 7th 2008. If you remember these young ladies and gents at our reunion you will never forget the service that they produce for Remembrance Day. They certainly make service personnel feel like they have been a success in the military. We will be car-pooling from the Bridgewater Legion at 0930 on November the 7th.

Our next ADPNA event will be on December the 5th. The event is our annual Christmas dinner and dance.

Come out and enjoy.

ADPNA has enjoyed the joining of new Shipmates and we welcome them all. Some will remember the long boat and I am sure that an oar can be found for our new crew to help keep the Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association moving forward to more success.

Shipmate

Milton C. Williams

ADPNA President

Entertainment Chairman

AHOY Shipmates, its time for a Christmas gettogether. The Legion has been reserved for us for Friday, 5th. December 2008. Roast turkey is on the menu and after dinner we will be able to dance to the music of Grant Smith and Friends from past years. Evening tickets (dinner and dance) will be on sale for $25.00 each. This is a $5.00 increase from past years and the first in 8 years. For those from outside of town who wish to stay at the Bridgewater Bogan Villa Inn, the price has gone up but still the best price in town at $69.00 a night.

We have to know if you plan to attend by Tuesday, 25 November 2008 as that is the cut off date imposed by the legion for meals. So PLEASE, PLEASE let us know before said date or we will have to ‘SORRY’ and we don’t want to.

Ronald “Sticky” Lepage ET Chairman (‘phone home’)

RCNA Director

This is a short report to let you know I am still kicking and keeping very busy with the affairs of the Royal Canadian Naval Association. I had planned to report at the last meeting but missed it because another important meeting managed to get scheduled at the same time. I recently attended the Executive and Annual General Meetings of the RCNA in OshawaOntario, representing the ADPNA as the Club Director; secondary duties of National Executive Secretary and Division Vice President Atlantic were keeping me on the go as well.

Several motions were made and carried, lots of ideas were planned and overall they were good meetings. It is good to meet representatives from over 30 clubs and hear their ideas. I will have a comprehensive report at the November meeting. The following are some of the more important items:

1. The Veterans Federation proposed by the Legion was unanimously turned down. Since then, our President attended the Legion meeting in Ottawa with this information. It is looking more and more likely that all the various Naval Associations in Canada will unite under one roof. This includes the Naval Officers Association of Canada. There are many other smaller groups such as CNAG, Tribal Association etc.

2. Finances - The funds of National are slowly being deleted without means to replenish them. A lot of ideas came forth such as advertising in the Yardarm, raffles etc. The main one was the raising of per capita dues from $5.00 to $6.00 per year. There was only one dissenter on this, but his club has since accepted it. Please note our own dues have never increased from the $15.00 set in 1985.

3. Member of the Year was Fred Skinner from the Niagara Region Club.

4. Club of the Year was awarded to the Manitoulin North Shore Club based in Sudbury, Ontario, a small club with big ideas. In future the Club of the Year award will be known as the John McGovern Club of the Year Award in honour of the late National President.

More on these meetings and, most likely, more from Doc Halliday about the 2010 events will be reported at our meeting on November 20th. Doc is at this moment on his way home from a 2010 Meeting in Ottawa.

See you all at the Christmas Dinner and Dance.

Jerry Sigrist, RCNA Director.

Definition of a Veteran

When a good Veteran leaves the 'job' and retires to a better life, many
are jealous, some are pleased, and others, who may have already retired,
wonder if he knows what he is leaving behind, because we already know.
We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few
experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times.
We know in the Military life there is a fellowship which lasts long
after the uniforms are hung up in the back of the closet.
We know even if he throws them away, they will be on him with every
step and breath that remains in his life. We also know how the very
bearing of the man speaks of what he was and in his heart still is.
These are the burdens of the job. You will still look at people
suspiciously, still see what others do not see or choose to ignore and
always will look at the rest of the Military world with a respect for
what they do; only grown in a lifetime of knowing.
Never think for one moment you are escaping from that life. You are
only escaping the 'job' and merely being allowed to leave 'active' duty.
So what I wish for you is that whenever you ease into retirement, in
your heart you never forget for one moment that you are still a member
of the greatest fraternity the world has ever known.
From one Veteran to another, it's an honor to be in your Company!

Thank you Veterans

Secretary / Membership

I am back and it is good to be home. I wish to thank Shipmate Sigrist for kindly filling in for me while I was away. I and the recorder will be present at the next meeting, 20 November at 1400.

I see that we have a handful of new members, some have been presented to the membership, some have name tags and I have some, and I believe a name tag or two have to be ordered but ALL are approved by the membership. WELCOME Shipmates; Anthony (Tony) Brown, Richard (Dick) Boon, John Hunter, Al Cox and Michael (Herb) McDonald.

Martin Field, Secretary & Membership Chairman

I Shed A Tear

I shed a tear

For shipmates

Far and near

Friends and Mates

That cross the Bar

Then through the gates

They have sailed afar

They Cross the Bar

To meet their Mates

We dance a jig

For a jolly Tar

One has Crossed the Bar
