JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Purpose of Post

The role holder will take charge of all aspects of developing and delivering the Trust’s cycle sport programmes at the National Cycling Centre and Platt Fields Park BMX Track, as well as all cycle sport outreach programmes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.  To lead the cycle sport team so that each member of the team is driving to improve their own performance and the performance of the business.

2.  To manage the team of cycle sport lead coaches and the community supervisor.

3.  To manage and oversee the budget for each cycle sport discipline at the NCC and Platt Fields Park BMX Track and related outreach programmes.

4.  To analyse the performance of each cycle sport discipline (and associated activities) via the performance pack and use this information to inform strategies to improve business performance in each discipline.

5.  To prepare, write and manage funding bids and grant awards commensurate to the level of the role.

6.  To ensure continuous improvement in the participation levels and revenues generated via the cycle sport programmes.

7.  To coordinate the marketing and publicity of the cycle sport disciplines and aligned activities with the Trust’s Marketing and Communications Manager.

8.  To provide key performance indicator information for track, BMX, MTB and community outreach activities on a quarterly basis. This will be linked to the annual sports development plans and reporting requirements set by the Trust and MCC.

9.  To provide a strategic lead for the Trust’s externally funded cycle sport (and related) programmes and to strategically manage the Trust’s disability, under 5s, juniors and youth inclusion projects (including holiday programmes) in cycle sport and associated activities.

10.  To manage the Trust’s cycling partnerships with voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations, in particular those dealing with social inclusion, regeneration, health, education and training in order to maximise opportunities for people in Manchester’s communities to take part in cycle sport.

11.  To oversee the increased usage of the Trust’s cycling facilities by educational establishments across Manchester through a coordinated schools and FE/HE offer which links into relevant pathways for the retention of young people in cycle sport.

12.  To oversee the Trust’s relationship with cycle sport clubs at the NCC and Platt Fields Park BMX Track and to work with those clubs to increase their Manchester resident participation levels.

13.  In conjunction with British Cycling, conduct a regular review of the recruitment, training and performance of the Trust’s cycle sport coaches.

14.  To initiate regular forums of the Trust’s cycle sport coaches to review issues of relevance to their CPD.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

1.  Educated to degree level or equivalent.

2.  Understanding and knowledge of the structure of cycle sport both locally and nationally.

3.  Understanding of the changing sporting landscape that may impact on business performance.

4.  Understanding of the coaching requirements and parameters for each cycling discipline delivered, and how this may impact on the cycle sport programme.

5.  Experience of programming sports activities.

6.  Significant experience of developing and implementing successful programmes of sport development, including working with clubs, educational establishments and within the community.

7.  Experience of influencing external organisations to be involved in programmed activities.

8.  An understanding of the barriers that may prevent people participating in and staying in cycle sport and how to overcome them.

9.  Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating an ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people and organisations.

10.  A strong leader with the ability to bring the best out of a diverse team.

11.  Evidence of ability to work on own initiative and plan workload, setting targets for self and others.

12.  Evidence of excellent administrative and organisational skills.

13.  Ability to monitor and evaluate programmes, produce and interpret statistical data and implement interventions based on data received.

14.  Experience of applying for funding grants and managing them on specific programmes once secured.

15.  Experience of managing a small team; leading and motivating others to perform to the highest standards and to deliver key objectives.

16.  Experience of budget management and using financial indicators to improve business performance.

17.  Excellent report and written communication skills.

18.  Be willing to work evenings and weekends as the job requires.

19.  Willingness to consent to and apply for an enhanced disclosure check.

Desirable:

20.  Driver’s licence.

21.  Qualified as a Level 2 coach or above in any sport.

22.  Qualified Level 2 specific coach in BMX, mountain biking or track cycling.
