A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE COLUMBIA HIGH SCHOOL “CAPITALS” GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND THEIR HEAD COACH, BOBBY YOUNG, ON WINNING THE 2004 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION TO BECOME A CHAMPION.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork with developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to be a champion in basketball, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership skills and physical abilities; and
Whereas, with the guidance and leadership of Head Coach Bobby Young, the girls basketball team of Columbia High School faced intimidating opponents and tough games but were rewarded with the chance to become state champions; and
Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, the “Capitals” enjoyed great success in several competitions, entering the state finals with a record of 242; and
Whereas, in capturing the state title, the 2004 girls basketball team defeated Andrews High School 6341 by taking an early lead in the first half which they never relinquished; and
Whereas, with their win at the state finals, the Columbia High girls basketball team sealed their winning season with their twentyfifth victory, bringing home their fifth state championship in the past ten years; and
Whereas, the members of this outstanding team include: Ebonie Baker, Allycia Floyd, Brittany Hollins, Pegdrina Garrett, Chlon Rogers, Kebas Washington, Ashley McCoy, Shardae Hook, Danyell Myers, Tiffany Williams, Falon Cummings, Jocelyn Bronson, Catrina Wells, and Vanessa Goff; and
Whereas, the Columbia High School girls basketball team has brought great credit not only upon themselves but also upon the students, faculty, alumni, staff, and friends of Columbia High School; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the General Assembly recognizes these young South Carolinians on the occasion of their winning the Class AA State Championship. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Columbia High School “Capitals” girls basketball team and Head Coach Bobby Young on winning the 2004 Class AA Girls Basketball State Championship and to commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication to become a champion.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Bobby Young.
