Job Title / Stop Smoking Service Co-ordinator – Nurse

OVERALL PURPOSE
·  To provide a high quality stop smoking service to individuals living in Newcastle upon Tyne through the delivery of brief advice, brief interventions and the delivery of an active intervention programme.
·  Work as part of the NRT Voucher Protocol issuing vouchers to appropriate individuals
·  Act as a lead worker on a key work-stream, in particular the pregnancy and mental health work-streams, and ensure that services are appropriately tailored and targeted to these groups
·  To liaise and work with others in the health and social care community in order to promote the stop smoking service and encourage appropriate referrals
·  To support the training and development of smoking advisors across Newcastle through support and mentorship
·  To provide specialist support, advice and guidance on stop smoking services to a range of professionals, clients and members of the public
·  Ensure services offered can be effectively monitored and managed by using the Quit Manager system for recording direct delivery, and through supporting the wider colleagues and professionals with the system.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Delivery:
·  To promote the benefits of stopping smoking and the stop smoking services through a variety of mechanisms and at a range of venues and events
·  To work as part of the specialist team providing brief advice and very brief advice to a wide population of individuals across Newcastle upon Tyne
·  Provide brief interventions to individuals including brief assessment, intervention and advice
·  Deliver structured interventions to those looking to quit as part of Lifeline’s Active Intervention Programme.
·  Provide vouchers as a key component of the Active Intervention Programme in line with the local NRT Voucher Scheme.
·  Take a lead role on one of the key work-streams for the service, in particular the Pregnancy and Mental Health work-streams, ensuring the service is appropriately tailored and targeted to the key groups.
Training and Mentorship:
·  To support the expansion of external Stop Smoking Advisors across Newcastle upon Tyne, through the promotion of the service and encouraging engagement
·  Provide dedicated training to new Stop Smoking Advisors and refresher training to existing Advisors
·  Provide regular advice and support to external Stop Smoking Advisors through a programme of mentorship
·  Provide specialist advice and support to wider professionals seeking further information about Stop Smoking Services
Performance and Data Management:
·  Ensure all interventions are recorded and monitored through utilising the Quit Manager system
·  Support wider Advisors to use the Quit Manager system for the recording and monitoring of all Stop Smoking interventions
·  Provide training to new Advisors on using and navigating the system
·  Ensure all records are accurately maintained
·  Support the Service Manager to effectively performance manage the system by providing reports and data when requested

·  To ensure risk and safeguarding issues are effectively assessed and addressed, reporting any potential risk and safeguarding issues to ensure the protection of staff, service users and children.
·  To work within professional boundaries, maintaining safety and appropriate confidentiality at all times.
·  To promote, contribute to, and implement corporate initiatives as required.

Person Specification

All criteria are Essential unless otherwise indicated

Experience

·  Experience of delivering health and/or social care interventions within a community setting

·  Experience of carrying out assessments and delivering interventions matched to identified needs

·  Experience of assessing and managing risk

·  Experience of training, mentoring or supporting other professionals

·  Experience of working within Smoking Services (desirable)

·  Experience of delivering group interventions (desirable)

Knowledge

·  An understanding of human behaviour in relation to smoking

·  An in-depth understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with smoking

·  An understanding/awareness of current national policies on smoking and the strategies that influence the priorities of treatment services.

·  An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the treatments and interventions available to smokers

·  Knowledge of Quit Manager (desirable)

Qualifications and Training

·  RGN Level 1 with current NMC registration

·  National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) Level 2 training

Skills and abilities

·  Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and in a range or formats

·  Ability to quickly stablish a rapport with the client group

·  Ability to use a range of IT systems for the effective recording and monitoring of data

·  A commitment and contribution to the continuous improvement of service and business development.

·  A commitment and contribution to the maintenance of high standards of care and service delivery.
