Plant Donations: 59 Plants, 2 Pkg. Coontie Seeds
President, Gail Taylor welcomed everyone and recognized guests and new members. First time guests were given a free ticket for the plant donation drawings. The drawing process was explained. Florida Native Plant membership application process and fees were explained. Current membership is 93. New members were given the opportunity to choose a plant from the donation table before the drawings begin. Plants for this drawing are donated by members from their gardens. Color Country Nursery donated three plants for our table this month.
Our first $300 grant has been awarded to the Old Homosassa Veteran’s Memorial. We are still looking for more applications to be submitted. Contact Deb Daniels for information on grants, .
Sue Wassermann reported on the plant sale that was held in March. 37 volunteers participated and profits from the sale exceeded $2500.00. Our next plant sale will be held on Friday, May 25 at the Homosassa Wildlife Park in conjunction with a program being presented by our member, Jodi Lanier, on native plants and wildflowers. Watch for details in upcoming emails. Members present voted to purchase plants for this sale not to exceed $300.00.
Gail reported on the native plant display that was placed at the Citrus County Fair. The fair has invited our chapter to participate in displays of plants at future fairs. There will be categories for native trees, native shrubs and native flowering plants.
Our chapter has also planted two gardens at the fairgrounds, led by Chris Conlin.
Deb Daniels is in charge of the Wildflowers On Our Roadside program. Deb and a few interested people will meet on Saturday, April 14th to break into carpools and go searching for wildflowers on our roadsides. If you are interested, contact Deb Daniels, .
Upcoming events:
Weeding day will take place on Tuesday, April 10, from 9 AM – 11 AM at Churchhouse Hammock across from the Crystal River Mall. Bring your gardening tools, bug spray and water. Contact Ben, if you are able to volunteer.
Saturday, April 21, we will celebrate Earth Day with an event at the Lecanto Government Center. Abby Madeires is the Director of this event. Contact Abby to volunteer your assistance with this project.
May 1st will be our chapter member pot luck picnic and native plant walk at Churchhouse Hammock. We will have a plant walk from 4:30 – 6 PM and dinner from 6 PM – 7 PM. Please join us and bring a dish to share. Email Gail,

There will be no chapter meetings in June, July or August, but watch your emails for news about outings and other events that are being planned. Information will be posted on our website and our Facebook page.
Ben Bereaur is planning field trips for us. If there is somewhere you would like to go on a field trip, let Ben know. If you would consider opening your property for us to come see your native plants, let Ben know.

Our speaker was Carol Spears from Villages Chapter of FNPS. Her program was “From Invasive to Native: Creating a Home for Florida’s Plants and Animals”.
