Aquatherm Lead-Free Compliant and Ahead of its Time

Lindon, UT -- (November 20, 2013) – With the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the zero-lead mandate taking full effect January 4, 2014, some companies are scrambling to prepare while Aquatherm continues to lead the way. As always, Aquatherm’s polypropylene-random (PP-R) piping systems and heat fusion connections are 100% lead free. In addition, Aquatherm has been offering zero-lead brass transition fittings since 2011.

The EPA states that lead can leach into drinking water through corrosion of metal pipes, solder, fixtures, faucets and fittings. According to epa.gov, “Children ages 6 and under are at the greatest risk. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should avoid exposure to lead to protect their children. Exposure to lead can result in delays in physical and mental development.”

Toxin-free and zero-lead Aquatherm piping systems have been installed in thousands of locations in more than 70 countries for the past 40 years. Aquatherm pipe has also been installed in several hundred systems in North America since 2005 and is an increasingly popular alternative to piping materials that corrode or leach.

Aquatherm Green Pipe® complies with national, third-party ANSI/NSF 61 (C.HOT 180 °F/82 °C) standards. It has been listed as compliant since 1993 and is accepted by most major plumbing codes. This demonstrates Aquatherm’s commitment to providing piping systems that won’t leach and are safe for direct transport of drinking water. Aquatherm also offers copper and stainless steel fittings as an alternative to both standard and lead-free brass. Aquatherm transition fittings are available for potable water fixture sizes from ½ in. to 3 in. in diameter.

Aquatherm piping systems additionally meet the various requirements of other codes and standards of the following agencies: CSA, ASTM, ICC, IAPMO, ISO, and DIN.
