PASSY, from Plovdiv[2]

The first known place of origin of the jewish family PASSY, as the story goes, is the city of Fez in Morocco, wherefrom the name Passy comes (= el Phassy, Pazzy, Pasi, Fassy, Fazy, Fazzy etc. Muslim Families with such name fcurrently exist in Morocco, e.g. the Prime Minister of MoroccoMr. Abbas El Fassi. Passy is a very popular name in France and to some extent in Switzerland.)

Later, PASSYs moved to Spain or Catalunia, where they stayed until 1492, when the Jews were exiled.

In their journey to the East of Europe, the PASSYs, after a couple of centuries stopover in Italy, reached the Ottoman Empire. A famous scholar or philosopher Passy is known to have worked in Istanbul.

Passy is a popular name in France and Switzerland, but I am not aware of any links with us.

The next, confirmed,Passy evidence is about Isaac Passy (18??-1915) from Plovdiv (then in the Ottoman Empire, today in Bulgaria) and his three sons, also born in Plovdiv: Eliezer (biggest?), Nissim (middle?), Solomon (youngest), as described below.

This Plovdiv branch ofthe Passy family has nowadays ramifications in Bulgaria, the US (LA, Texas, Chicago) and Latin America, number of them in Israel, may be in Morocco and elsewhere in Europe (e.g. Istanbul, France, Moldova), and who knows where else around the globe.
