HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT RESUME INFORMATION

The development of your student resume is an important step in planning your future. You will use your student resume for part-time jobs, jobs after high school, college applications, scholarship recommendations, internships, summer jobs, etc. Teachers, school counselors and your references will also use your resume to make/write recommendations.

You want your resume to tell your story and demonstrate what you can offer a potential employer (or college). Your resume should be succinct but provide enough information to catch the recruiter’s eye, making them want to learn more about you.

BASIC RESUME WRITING TIPS

Format

  • Use Times Roman, Arial or Calibri font.
  • Use 10-12 point font size. Your name at the top can be a larger font (14).
  • Use professional looking bullets (no hearts or stars)!
  • Headings should be in bold.
  • Keep it to one page. References can be on a second page and provided if requested.
  • Ensure consistency throughout your resume – i.e., if you capitalized your headers in two places, make sure the rest are capitalized as well.
  • Keep it clean and organized.

  • Besides your objective (which should be first) include education, work experience, awards and honors, extracurricular activities, sports, community service and skills.
