Sergeant Major Michael J. Mingle entered the United States Army Dec. 6, Advance Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as an armor crewman. Sergeant Major Mingle’s first assignment was with HHC 2d Battalion, 34th Armor, later redesignated to 2d Battalion, 77th Armor, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as the battalion commander’s driver. Next he was assigned to D Company 2d Battalion, 72d Armor, and 2d Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea, where he served as a gunner and training NCO. He was then assigned to C Company 1st Battalion, 63d Armor, (OPFOR) of the 177th Armored Brigade at Fort Irwin, California, serving as a gunner and tank commander. He returned to Korea as a gunner and tank commander with C Company 2d Battalion, 72d Armor, 2d Infantry Division at Camp Casey. He was then assigned to HHC 1st Brigade, 1st Armor Division in Kirchgoens, Germany, serving as the S-3 Plans NCO before deploying to Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Sergeant Major Mingle was assigned to C Company 1st Battalion, 32d Armor, 2d Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Washington, as a tank platoon sergeant. He then received a special duty assignment (Project Warrior) to serve as an observe controller at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin. He then went on to be the Sr. Writing Inst. in AOB 2nd Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment, and later serving as First Sergeant for Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment. Next assignment was HHC, 1st Battalion, 72d Armor, 2d Infantry Division at Camp Casey, where he was the HHC First Sergeant. He was selected to attend the USASMA Class 57. After graduation he was assigned to HHT, 6th Squadron 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade (Vanguard), 3d Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, as the Operations Sergeant Major. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V and was assigned to HHT, 3rd Squadron, 7th U.S. Cavalry, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team (Spartans), 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart as the Squadron Command Sergeant Major, immediately deploying the squadron to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom VII and Operation New Dawn. He was assigned as the interim Brigade Command Sergeant Major with 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team (Spartans), and assumed his duties as the Squadron Command Sergeant Major with 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment. He deployed the squadron to Regional Command-North, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12-13. In July 2013 he was assigned to HHC 191st Infantry Brigade, JBLM, WA, Division West, First Army as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major. In March 2015 he was assigned to HHC G3/5/7, United States Army Military Academy, West Point, NY. In September 2015 he was assigned to OPM-SANG, Ryihad, Saudi Arabia as the OPM-SANG SGM.

His military and civilian education includes the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, First Sergeants Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Drill Sergeant School, Battle Staff Course, Instructor Course, Observer Controller School, Instructor Operator Course (UCOFT). He has an Associate in Applied Science, Administrative Management Studies, from Excelsior College. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (2OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (5OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), National Defense Service Medal (1 BSS), Armed Forces Service Medal, Armed Forces Expedition Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Service Ribbon, (4th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (8th Award), NATO Medal (Bosnia-Herzegovina, ISAF), Meritorious Unit Citation (2 OLC), Army Superior Unit Award (2 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, German Schutzenschnur (Silver Badge), the Order of Saint George (Bronze Medallion), Order of Saint Barbara, and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Medallion.

Sergeant Major Mingle is married.
