Islam Festival Presentation-Project

Requirements

1.  Working in pairs, choose one of the projects and write research questions (minimum of 4) that will lead you to explore your topic in detail.

*Example question:

How did Islam influence ______(your topic)?

2.  Research your topic by taking notes and then use Cornell format:

Subtopics/questions on the left side / Notes on the center, right side
Summary of notes at the bottom (see #3 for instructions)

*Cite your sources within your notes and provide complete citation after the summary.

3.  Create individual bullet notes and summary. Then revise one summary to be used for group grade. Your summary should have a clear topic sentence that answers your main topic question, supporting sentences that give main ideas to support this topic, and a final general sentence that connects to one of the Big Ideas.

4.  You must have a Works Cited with at least 3 sources. You may use any of the following sources: the Solana Beach Library (books/database), the class textbook, class notes, or the internet. You must attach a copy of the internet source(s) to the final research paper.

5.  Your presentation should last 3-5 minutes. You will be presenting the information you researched. It must also have a creative, colorful, informative, and easy to read visual aide.

6.  During your presentation, you must teach at least 10 facts on which the rest of the class may take notes.

7.  You may NOT use your D.O.G. on any Final Drafts.

Islam Festival Presentations Period______

*You must create a visual aide that is colorful, creative, informative, and easy to read. Example visual aide ideas: powerpoint, model with labeled parts, poster.

1.  Research the story of 1001 Arabian Nights then dramatize a story or myth from that book. Read 2-3 stories and summarize in your paper.

2.  Using recordings or authentic instruments present a musical demonstration of the music Arabs enjoy.

3.  Create a play, poem, or presentation on the life of the ancient Bedouins of nomads of the desert. Write a mini-drama on the life of an Arab during Prophet Muhammad’s time and the life of an Arab today.

4.  Research dancing of the Arabs. Perform a dance with a narrator describing it.

5.  Research and explain the Arabic alphabet. Use examples and involve the class in your presentation.

6.  Present information on one or more major Arab contributions such as mathematics, medicine, or literature.

7.  Prepare a presentation on the Five Pillars of Faith.

8.  Prepare a presentation on the importance of frankincense and myrrh to the Arabs. Bring a sample for your presentation.

9.  Research Arabic games such as backgammon, Polo, and chess. Have the class play the game.

10.  Prepare a presentation on the dromedary or camel, use slides, pictures, etc. How did camels help with the nomadic way of life? Include information on trade routes and the impact of Arab merchants on the rest of the world.

11.  Research Arab/Islamic designs and make a poster to present and explain. Collect pictures of Islamic/Arabic art and architecture. OR Make and explain some Arabic jewelry and describe the significance. Mount them on a poster board.

12.  Create a board game using facts about Arabs or Islam. Include the class.

13.  Create a timeline on Muslim culture, history, or military conquests.

14.  Create a newspaper with headlines, photos, and articles. How did Islam influence ______(you determine topic)?

15.  Make a large map of the Middle East. Make a presentation on the geography of the Middle East and how it affected Arab history.

16.  Design a title page for the Qur’an using the proper designs and writings. Then present information on the Qur’an itself.

17.  Using a timeline, chart, or map compare the religions of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

18.  Build a replica of the sacred Kaaba and mosque or minaret. Present information on the symbolism of Islamic architecture and the history of the building you’re presenting.

19.  Present a debate or discussion on the subject of women’s rights in the past and present. Use the Qur’an and/or Sunna to defend or reject it.

20.  Research and present an Arab fashion show depicting male and female styles from different regions, ages, etc.

21.  Become a Muslim warrior during the crusades or during an ancient jihad. Explain weapons, tactics, etc. Define jihad. How has this term changed over time?

22.  Make Middle Eastern food. Nomadic Arabs use camel and goat’s milk, rice, dates, and other fruits and vegetables. Urban Muslims serve more sophisticated cuisine. Research Muslim rules and celebrations that address food. See Mrs. Oehler for recipes.
