Job Description
Job Title:Youth Worker
Responsible to:Team Manager, Carers Support Services
Aim:
- To assist young carers to acquire the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to participate in groups and in the community and to contribute positively to their development as adults.
Main Duties:
- Work directly with young carers in a wide range of settings, including working both evening and weekends.
- Interact with young carers, motivating and encouraging them to put their ideas into practice and to develop their own projects and opportunities.
- Undertake YCP assessment period with young carers
- Manage a caseload providing 1:1 support
- Support young people to identify and work towards their goals.
- Identify and support young carers to access and participate in mainstream services including local community resources i.e. youth clubs and community centres.
- Complete case notes and ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Develop and carry out regular consultation with young carers to enable the service to be responsive.
- Assist with the planning, development and deliver y of the programme of events for young carers.
- Supporting young carers to access and participate in the Dynamic Youth Awards and Youth Achievement awards.
- Promote the use of up-to-date information and resources to enable young carers to make informed decisions.
- Assist with maintaining and updating YCP resources.
- Ensure adherence to Health & Safety requirements in all activities and ensure appropriate use of all equipment.
- Be committed to personal and professional development within the organisation.
Other Duties:
From time to time the post-holder may be asked to carry out other duties which are in keeping with the aims of the post and levels of responsibility. All staff are required to adhere to the policies of the organisation regarding Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Child Protection and Confidentiality and to work as part of the team.
The nature of this role means that the postholder will be in a position of trust and in sole supervision of children. This is classed as regulated work, and the successful applicant will therefore be required to register with the PVG Scheme in Scotland if they have not already done so, or to apply for a Scheme Record Update. This requirement is in line with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and also with the Centre’s own Protecting Vulnerable Groups Policy.
