LAP Care of Patients with Immune & LymphaticDisorders

LAP Objective

Upon completion of this LAP you will be able to discuss the care and treatment of patients with an autoimmune, allergic, or infectious disorder. This knowledge will be evidenced by scoring a minimum of 80% on assignments and the exam.

Specific Objectives

1.Define key terms.

2.Review the following:

a.body’s innate (natural) immune response;

b.characteristics of innate and acquired immunity;

c.role of the lymphatic system in the immune response;

d.various ways in which immunity to disease occurs;

e.factors that interfere with normal immune response;

f.role of immunizations in relation to immunity;

g.assessments that indicate immune system function; &

h.precautions to be taken for patients with an impaired immune system.

3.Compare pathophysiology, the signs and symptoms, and treatment of immune disorders.

4.Describe the modes of transmission for HIV.

5.Discuss the risks to individuals with an immune deficiency disorder.

6.Relate diagnostic tests and surgical procedures to the nursing care of patients with immune

disorders.
