Paper I :Basic Statistics (Minor Elective for students of other Programmes)

BASIC STATISTICS

UNIT – I

Methods of Data Collection: Collection of Primary data, construction of questionnaire, Collection of data through questionnaire, Difference between questionnaires and schedules,Some other methods of data collections, Collection of Secondary data, Processing and analysis of data.

UNIT – II

Classification and Tabulation of Data, Tally marking, Discrete and continuous type of data, graphical presentation of data, Bar Diagram, Histogram, Pie Char, Line Chart, Pictogram.

UNIT – III

Descriptive Statistics: Measure of central tendency, dispersion, skewness and kurtosis for the

study of nature of data.

UNIT – IV

Idea of correlation and regression for two and three variables; correlation coefficient, multiple

and partial correlations, Rank correlation.

UNIT – V

Four short notes, one from each unit will be asked. Students have to answer any two.

Paper II :Computational Method of Statistics (Minor Elective for students of other Programmes)

COMPUTATIONAL METHOD OF STATISTICS

UNIT - I

Mathematical and statistical definitions of probability, laws of probability, Random variable and sampling techniques, Simple random sampling, Stratified random sampling, Cluster Sampling, Systematic sampling.

UNIT - II

Parameter andStatistic, Null and alternative hypothesis, level ofsignificance, p-value, degree of freedom, Test of Hypothesis, Application of Chi square test, t and F.

UNIT - III

Normal distribution, its properties and applications in different statistical test. Analysis of variance, One way ANOVA and Two way ANOVA.

UNIT – IV

Use of Statistical packages for data analysis – SPSS and Excel.

UNIT – V

Four short notes, one from each unit will be asked. Students have to answer any two.
