1.0 PURPOSE
This policy defines the acceptable use of Network resources at Wilmington College.
2.0 SCOPE
This policy applies to all employees and students of the Wilmington College.
3.0 POLICY
3.1 Definition
The Wilmington College Network is a facility providing data communications services to members of the immediate College community. “Wilmington College Network” refers to any device connected to the College data infrastructure, domains, and websites. All computers attached to the Wilmington College Network must have appropriate software running on them to ensure a secure environment for all users. Wilmington College will provide the monitoring software to ensure compliance with this policy by faculty, staff, students, and guests. The software will assist all users in maintaining their computers in the manner prescribed by this policy. Software needed to ensure a secure environment will include:
· Wilmington College approved anti-virus software.
· The most current security patch software for your operating system.
· Monitoring software to ensure compliance with this policy.
· Other software as periodically deemed appropriate by Wilmington College’s Office of Information Technology to ensure a safe and secure Internet and Intranet for all students and faculty.
3.2 Compliance
The Wilmington College Network is provided to facilitate the educational process and the administrative efforts in support of research and instruction for faculty, staff, and students of Wilmington College. The use of the Network must be consistent with facilitating the exchange of knowledge and information while encouraging resource sharing and collaborative projects in education and research. The Network may be used for consulting, book reviewing, writing of textbooks, etc. consistent with the user’s position at Wilmington College.
3.3 Non-Compliance
· It is not acceptable to share your Wilmington College passwords with anyone.
· It is not acceptable to use the Wilmington College Network for illegal purposes including, but not limited to, copyright infringement.
· It is not acceptable to use the Wilmington College Network to transmit intimidating, threatening, obscene, or harassing materials.
· It is not acceptable to use the Wilmington College Network for non-Wilmington College business or commercial purposes.
· It is not acceptable to use the Wilmington College Network to interfere with or disrupt network users, services, or system resources of Wilmington College or any facility accessible via the network. Disruptions include, but are not limited to: distribution of unsolicited advertising; creation and propagation of computer worms or viruses; and using the network to gain unauthorized entry to any other resource accessible via the Network.
3.4 Violations
Violations of the Acceptable Use Policy may result in the immediate suspension of violators from access to Wilmington College computing resources. Such cases will be delivered to the appropriate office at Wilmington College for disciplinary action in accordance with the governing handbook. Violations of state or federal laws will be referred to the appropriate legal authorities.
