Andrew Page have chosen the Peoplesafe service to protect their lone working staff, implementing the Identicom and Twig devices across the company. In this case study we outline how the devices are used and the difference they are making.
Since its formation in 1917, Andrew Page Ltd has grown from its original base in Leeds to become to one of the UK’s largest distributors of autoparts and workshop equipment with over 114 branches.
Andrew Page Ltd has a strong people focused culture and has demonstrated this with an Investor in People accreditation and innovative industry training programme. Part of this strong focus on its people is to make personal safety a priority and it was as part of this focus that Andrew Page Ltd came to identify the need for a lone worker solution.
As part of the safety commitment of the company, Andrew Page Ltd began to look into the potential implementation of a lone worker protection solution in early 2014. After assessing the services available in the market place, the company chose to turn to the Peoplesafe service to protect their lone workers.
Peoplesafe provide an NSI Gold accredited service (the highest possible industry recognition) to their users who are offered protection 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service is fully compliant with the British Standard for lone worker provision (8484) and is supported by a dedicated monitoring centre. The service can be offered across a wide variety of devices, meaning that the high quality service can protect a number of different lone working roles within a single organisation.
During the middle of 2014 the Peoplesafe lone worker service was rolled out to Andrew Page Staff. The variety of devices and solutions in the Peoplesafe portfolio meant that a number of job roles could be covered under the same NSI Gold accredited service.
The two devices chosen from the Peoplesafe portfolio for use within the Andrew Page organisation were the Identicom and the Twig protector.
The Identicom takes the form of a name badge, making it a discrete option for those who work in a public facing environment. A Red Alert activation is easily achieved through a button press on the back of the device and GPS locations mean that the lone worker can be located easily during an emergency. The Identicom device is used by Warehouse Operatives and Branch Managers.
The Twig protector offers the same high level of protection as the Identicom but takes the form of a small device similar to a mobile phone. This design means that it is better suited to those whose roles are not public facing where its ease of use and durability make it an effective tool across a wide range of job roles.
The Peoplesafe service is designed to offer the same high level of protection across a wide portfolio of devices, giving freedom to organisations to choose the device that best suits their lone working requirements. By utilising a combination of the Identicom and Twig devices Andrew Page staff can be sure that they are using the device that is best suited to their lone working requirements and risks.
The Peoplesafe service is used across Andrew Page’s 100,000 square foot distribution centre in Markham Vale, where Warehouse Operatives prepare products to be delivered to customers. HGV drivers delivering products also use the Identicom device when on the road. The GPS function of the device is of particular use to drivers, ensuring that wherever they are located during their working day they can be located and an emergency response raised.
Usage of the devices is now embedded into the procedures and working practices of the organisation. Employees now feel safer when carrying out their duties in the knowledge that emergency help is only a button push way. The health and safety of lone workers is now embedded into the organisation and the Peoplesafe service is now making a real difference to Andrew Page lone workers.
Lisa Reed, Health and Safety Officer at Andrew Page Ltd commented:
“Staff have the comfort of knowing that help is only a button click away. They feel that Andrew Page Group have invested in their safety and the Peoplesafe devices offer good value for money. “
