First Federal Supports R2AK and Wooden Boat Festival

Port Angeles, WA (May 3, 2016) – First Federal has committed to supporting the Northwest Maritime Center of Port Townsend, in sponsorship of the Race to Alaska (R2AK) and Wooden Boat Festival events.

Larry Hueth, First Federal President/CEO said, “As a business banking partner of the Northwest Maritime Center, First Federal is proud to support the Race to Alaska and Wooden Boat Festival. Both events bring people together in our community and promote our incredible maritime industry in Port Townsend and beyond.”

The R2AK is a 750 mile marathon using only non-motorized watercraft. It is geared toward long-distance rowers, paddlers and sailors. This event is sponsored by the Northwest Maritime Center and has a first prize of $10,000. Stage One is Port Townsend, WA to Victoria, BC (40 miles) starting June 23, 2016. This stage is a qualifier for the full race. Stage Two is Victoria, BC to Ketchikan, AK (710 miles) and starts June 26, 2016.

The 40th Annual Wooden Boat Festival begins September 9 – 11, 2016. Highlights include 300 boats on land and water, 120 presentations, dozens of exhibitors, live music all day, every day, food court and local beers and wine. Tickets go on sale July 1, 2016.
