QUALITY TECHNICIAN

DEPARTMENT: Quality Assurance REPORTS TO: QA Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Performs a variety of technical monitoring activities and compliance audits of food products and raw materials to ensure the quality of the products produced and the highest level of food safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Duty/Responsibility
1.  Performs line checks to audit compliance with manufacturing statements and customer specifications.
2.  Conducts finished case audits of manufactured products to include measurement, verification of ingredients, print cards, packaging dimensions, paper count and dimensions, divider and header space, and date code to verify adherence to manufacturing specifications.
3.  Audits ingredient formulation, scaling procedures according to SOP’s and other production procedures.
4.  Performs Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audits of employee, plant, equipment, and materials to monitor conditions that may adversely impact safety according to company and federal guidelines (HACCP).
5.  Completes pre-operation inspection of manufacturing environment to include visual inspection, conveyor check, and ATP swab verification as well as highlighting and signing manufacturing statements.
6.  Maintains chart recorders for freezers, proofers and coolers on a daily and weekly basis and evaluates the data collected to ensure that it is within specifications.
7.  Monitors accuracy of scales and thermometers, by performing routine checks and calibration if required and metal detector.
8.  Assists in receiving raw materials, ingredients and ensuring that company, state, and federal standards and regulations are met and informing management if these criteria are not maintained.
9.  Participates in company and departmental training on policies, procedures and work methods.
10.  Performs other duties as assigned, including scaling micro ingredients.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs assigned duties under general supervision and does not perform any supervisory responsibilities but does instruct other employees in methods or procedures needed to carry out their job and provides information supervisors/management that is utilized in decision making.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma degree in a related field and 1 year of related quality assurance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of:

·  Units of measure such as weight, length, diameter, and height including the metric system of measurement;

·  Basic mathematics to include adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing;

·  Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles;

·  Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.

SKILLS

Skill in:

·  Reading and interpreting measurement tools such as tape measure, calipers, scales, and thermometers;

·  Reading English and writing basic reports;

·  Monitoring and reporting minor variances from standard;

·  Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
