Every Kid in a Park Programs 2016-2017

(These programs are for 4th grade students at Los Angeles County Title 1 schools only)

Jr. Ranger Special Event

This event-style program for up to 250 students per day, features outdoor experiences such as hiking, investigating nature, and history-based activities. Teachers and Chaperones will guide students to various staffed activities and assist with student participation. This program will be offered at King Gillette Ranch or Peter Strauss Ranch Wednesday-Friday in October, January, February, March, April and May.

California Love: Exploring Our Culture

Students will actively explore cultures that have lived in California and the United States. Students will work together with tools and materials related to our state's rich cultural heritage. This curriculum-based history program will be offered at King Gillette Ranch Thursday and Friday in September, November, December, January, February and March. Maximum number of students is 180.

Buzzworthy News: Pollinator Partners and You!

During this curriculum-based science field trip, students will investigate the pollinators, plants, and humans. They will also participate in hands-on, dialogue-based activities with rangers and volunteers. This program will be offered at Rocky Oaks on Wednesday in March- May. Maximum number of students is 60.

The Chumash: A Changing people, A Changing land

Students will explore Chumash culture and local ecosystems, such as chaparral, oak woodlands and the ocean. They will practice inquiry-based learning through the use of replica artifacts and other hands-on materials and will also participate in a mile long hike. This ranger and volunteer guided program is located at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa and offered Wednesday-Friday in September-May. Maximum number of students is 60.

From the Mountains to the City: First Peoples and Early Settlers

Students will explore the connections between themountains, people, and wildlife of LA right from Debs Audubon Center, near downtown Los Angeles. Rangers will lead students on a tour of Debs and former Tongva village of Yanngna, where students will discuss why this particular location was the intersection of wildlife, first peoples, and the ‘pobladores’ that founded one of the biggestcities in the world.This program will be offered at Ernest Debs Audubon Center in Northeast Los Angeles. After the program, students and their chaperones will have an opportunity to explore Debs through nature play and the Center. Offered Tuesday-Thursday in October-May. Maximum number of students is 100.
