3.  Project BACKGROUND:

3.1.  Rationale:

In almost a hundred years since Baguio became a chartered city, September 1, 1909, its people have seen the rise and fall of structures, the climax and denouement of its citizens, the recession and renaissance of their city from war, disasters and controversies --- bits and pieces that make Baguio history a recipe to understanding “now.”

With less appreciation for their city’s past, more of the Baguio’s sons and daughters continue to seek avenues for greatness outside city walls - lost opportunities for providence of immensity to a Baguio that has once, captured even the hearts of strangers; a break in the link to incoming generations that result to the waning of a city’s collective memory.

The Photo exhibit will enable residents and tourists alike, to learn the knowledge of their forebears in the hope of preserving and perpetuating consciousness about local heritage buildings, while viewing the past through photo exhibits on site and comparing them with the existing.

The on-site photo exhibit, printed on a (2’x4’) tarpaulin thus, is an important recipe for the facilitation of viewers in understanding the past and appreciating the present. For purposes of the Baguio City centennial celebration in 2009, there shall be initial 17-markers which shall be identified and installed for the opening on September 1, 2009
