Job Function
The job function is to work in a collaborative manner with the Manager of the North Metro Community Alcohol and Drug Service to ensure staff are supported in their roles and that best outcomes for consumers are achieved.
The Counselling Coordinator facilitates the delivery of a professional AOD service by providing appropriate levels of support and supervision to counselling staff.
The Counselling Coordinator maintains a small clinical case load. Where directed this position may back fill the Service Manager position.

Duties and Responsibilities

General

  • Support, promote and work in accordance with the Mission and Values of Cyrenian House.
  • Work in accordance with Cyrenian House Code of Conduct.
  • Facilitate effective communication within the team and the organisation.
  • Provide support to staff that enables a culture of learning, openness transparency and respect.
  • Be responsible for personal health and safety in the workplace and for complying with all Cyrenian House occupational Safety and health policies and procedures, promoting and maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Assist in maintaining staff awareness of all aspects of occupational safety and health (OSH) relating to their positions and adhere to OSH policies and procedures.
  • Develop positive working relationships within the team through the exchange of feedback, encouraging an open and safe team environment that utilises reflective practice.
  • Actively contribute to staff meetings, clinical supervision, training sessions and ongoing professional development; participate in agency planning and team building workshops.
  • Be responsible for the organisation and running of staff meetings as directed by the manager
  • Contribute to and promote the implementation of the Standards on Culturally Secure Practice.
  • Other duties as required.

Program Delivery

  • Ensure ongoing monitoring, evaluation and reporting of clinical outcomes against agreed targets in collaboration with the manager.
  • Implement and monitor treatment planning, interventions and clinical review processes.
  • Provide assessment, counselling, referral, as well as AOD information and support to all client groups, including consumers families and significant others, as appropriate.
  • Conduct intake meetings.
  • Conduct Clinical Review meetings.
  • Participate in shared case management and consultation with other service providers.

Representation and Networking

  • Develop and maintain networking partnerships with Alcohol and Other Drug Services, Mental Health, Aboriginal, CALD, DCPFS and diversion services, in addition to other allied services.
  • Participate in interagency networking committees as required.
  • Participate in community networks which support program goals and objectives, facilitating consumer referral, service relationships and outreach opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the service manager, work in collaboration with community organisations and other service providers to implement AOD support services and prevention activities to meet community needs

Leadership and relationships

  • Deliver and/or coordinate the provision of supervision and clinical group supervision to staff.
  • Demonstrate a leadership approach that enables the team to work cooperatively, including a willingness to resolve conflict.
  • Coordinate staff leave and training to ensure adequate staff coverage to meet the provisions of the program, taking into account seasonal variations, skills mix and staff well-being.
  • Coordinate the team to facilitate the provision of treatment that is multidimensional involving therapy, education, values and skills.
  • In collaboration with the manager, oversee the student and volunteer placement program with the service.

Governance

  • Support the development of clinical policies and procedures,
  • Implement, monitor and review clinical policies and procedures to ensure best practice standards
  • Contribute to organisational strategic planning.
  • Work with the manager to provide information for annual reports
  • Actively participate in supervision.

Administration

  • Ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of all administrative duties.
  • Oversee the maintenance of client files ensuring consumer records are kept according to Cyrenian House guidelines.
  • Have a sound working knowledge of the SIMS database, related documentation and its purpose.

Selection Criteria

Essential competencies and experience

  • Have a degree in social, behavioural or health sciences and or experience in the alcohol and other drug sector.
  • Have demonstrated and well developed leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have experience in working with culturally diverse, complex, coerced, and co-morbid AOD treatment populations.
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, delivering a professional service.
  • Have a current National Police Certificate.

Desirable competencies and experience

•Experience in interagency networking and community related activities.

•Current First Aid Certificate.

•A current C class driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
