Title II Report
Joanne thanked everyone for posting their data to the Wiki and added that it was very helpful in completing the assurances. There were areas that reflected a need for additional information, and this is the reason that study groups in specific areas are being created. The research from the study groups will be used to strengthen these areas. She noted that technology is used to tract data but it was a challenge to find some of this in programs. Only two programs have assessment courses – SPED and PEP. The TWS also helps student look at growth over time. Using data to improve student learning is a challenge for students.
Progress Report on Study Groups
The Internationalizing the Curriculum study group is pulling together information to apply for the Provost’s innovative curriculum grant funding.
The Preparing Teachers to Assess PK-12 Learners found that the data did not support a need for change. The group will be looking at the TWS in the fall.
The Preparing Teachers for English Language Learners group is collecting data by surveying faculty members for their current practices. After the data is collected and analyzed, the group will create a best practices document and make recommendations for change that best serve the needs of students.
The Preparing Teachers to Teach in Poverty group are also creating a grant proposal for the Provost’s innovative curriculum grant. They are collecting data from principals about how each are addressing interaction with the world as culture of poverty. The group’s goal is to create better understanding of students’ classroom experiences given this background.
The Preparing General Education Teachers to Work with Special Needs Students has not met yet.
The Clinical Field Experiences study group will meet in fall as well.
NCATE Update
Nancy gave the coordinators an update on NCATE.
